Just started Flash Harrisons uest and when i got to Thom, he sent me into space to mine stuff. *I have been blasting the asteroid with my mining lasers for about 20 mins and I am getting nothing out of it. Any ideas?

Bug, /ex on it, and see how much HAM it has left, if it's low, blast until it dispawns and the new one should be good. Other than that, try another asteorid.

OK, so i was able to mine some for a mission...now a couple questions.
1. How do you get the stuff out of your cargo hold?
2. How can i get bigger/better cargo holds, mining lasers and tractor beams?

To get the resources out of your hols you must land then target the ship in your datapad. There will be an option in your radial menu to unload the cargo hold.
To get upgraded components you will need to find a shipwright that has them on their vendor or is willing to build them for you. The items you want require space resources so if you mine more than what is requires the SW might be willing to make them for free or give you a mining contract.
Hope this helps.

I got a mining laser and cargo hold from the quest and I've taken on the next quest to get silcaceous... I've been firing, with the mining laser, at an asteroid for 15 mins now and it is not breaking up like described in the idiot's guide to mining... Any thoughts?

Asteroids lose points after a while, keep shooting and it should explode and respawn. No joke. Might take awhile with a small laser though, I dunno. I try to avoid mining whenever possible.

use /examine on the asteroid, check to see if the condition drops when you fire at it.
It should go down slowly, and when it reaches 0 the roid disapears and a fresh new one comes.

That, and is this the first time you've gone mining? The chunks that break off show as green dots on your radar, they're easy to miss if you don't know what to expect. I mine in 3rd person, helps to spot them.

I 'killed' the one asteroid I was working on and a new one spawned but I don't see any green on the radar except the one I'm shooting. There are bunch of smaller ones that show up that don't seem to be targetable and dont show up on radar but make 'the noise' (don't know how to describe it) when I shoot at them... This is my first attempt at mining and it's driving me insane!!! ![]()

Zoom way out. When you shoot the rock, you'll see a big chunk break off. Seems like you're limited to how many of these you can break off, so if you've already split a few and missed them, just wait for them to drift off and despawn.
When you do see a big chunk, follow and shoot at it. it'll break, shoot those, etc, until you get one.
Make a hotkey macro with the command /target ast, it helps in finding asteroid chunks quickly and targeting them. Or heck, just hit it while mining. Only catch is it'll also target asteroid bandits, but you have to kill those anyway at some point.

Thanks everyone!!! The first one must of been a dud but I watched for green on the radar and was able to mine!!! I'm not a shipwright so I don't know what is needed for a larger cargo hold, can someone clue me in? Thanks again!
