Thread: Some ideas for space GCW

Thought about the GCW in space a little and I think I have some ideas that would not result in crowding space with bases or have too much impact on space as is.

  • In the Tatooine, Corellian and Naboo space zones are space station frameworks. Players can build modules into these framework.

  • Modules can either be fighter bays or defensive platforms or marine bays.

  • Fighter bays increase the number of spawns of fighters of that faction in that area of space. If one side severly outnumbers the enemy (having at least 10 fighter bays and 5 times as much as the enemy) everyone of opposed faction travelling to the main planet (i.e. not Rori or Talus) of that system or landing on the main planet gains 10 wounds, since the landing was very rough. The extra spawns shouldn't be so high in level that they discourage people from doing space stuff, but they should be strong enough to be annoying. Tier 3 might be a good choice.

  • Defensive platforms attack each overt enemy within 1000 meters of the station. The first few are missile turrets, then come some slowly moving but heavy turrets with 1200 meters range, then some point defense turrets that make it extremely difficult closing in to vital points. They are highly mobile and aim extremely well. Their range is 150 meters from the given turret. Their damage output is relatively low.

  • Marine bays have sever influence the war standing for the given side on the systems main planet. They have now defensive capabilities on their own. Their influence on the warstanding should be considerable lower than that of ground bases - possibly like a low level PvE base. Their FP price should be higher than those, faction wise though.

  • To destroy a module you must first destroy several shield generator nodes of the framework. Once once one is destroyed drones are dispatched to repair them. These starship drones can need twenty seconds to repair a node and can be destroyed, too.

  • The actual turrets of a turret platform can be destroyed the same way. To prevent making it impossible to approach a base a "bomb strike" against one turret will automatically result in its destruction. Also rebels may use "iff scramble" against a station and will not be attacked even when other group members did already attack. As far as the station is concerned iff scramble works several times, even when the player gets a "noone will fall on that trick again" message.

  • After all shields - or a high enough number of shields - have been destroyed either a Nova Courier or a Decimator must "dock" with it and have a mining laser in the lower turret. The procedure takes 30 seconds. After that the structure is cut apiece and its debris drifts through space.

  • To attack a station one has to be space overt.

  • And something different: Each group can have one tactical leader. This leader must be using a new console within a Decimator, YT-1300 or Nova Courier. He gets an interface similiar to tactical multiplayer combat games to gain a tactical overview and give commands. If the leader commanding officer is not within a space overt ship everything space overt (including the base frameworks and modules) is invisible and commands cannot be included or addressed with any command.
This console is only available if the ship is equipped with a specialized droid interface. These droid interfaces can be won in a relatively simple quest but are really slow and heavy then or crafted by a droid engineer.

I would prefer some GCW content in space that did not disrupt the way normal space works now. I fly for Jabba in space and I sell weapons to both sides on the ground... You need to remember that half the players of SWG have little or no interest in the GWC in any form (though my Rebel alt sometimes blows up bases on the ground...).
