I just finished off tier 4 tonight and while doing my last mission I had to face a tier 5 gunboat with some escorts. Killed that one, but he almost got through my shields. Next waypoint in mission, there are TWO gunboats and I believe something like 5 or 6 escorts. First time I've scuttled since tier 1! I went back and took them out alright, just had to be a bit more careful this time.

Anyway, what tips can I get on gunboats? This makes me nervous because I was hoping to solo the corvette. I fly a Bel-22 and I don't use armor because it's never came in handy before. My shields put out about 1900 protection. I can't just get better components because I hope to try the corvette tonight.

Some of my ship stats with overloads:

Speed: 1188 max

Cap: 1700ish

Weapons: 1 is around 3500max 0.42speed and the other is 2500max 0.3ish spd

PYR: mid 60's

Shield: 1900 front/back

I have 1900 f/b shield, just joust them over and over until it dies, if you fly slightly erratically (not straight as an arrow) you wont get hit to much. I did it for the last storm squadron mission, think it was one t5 gunboat, 2 T3 nova's and another 8-10 fighters, i went after the gunboat first and even with all that comming at me while jousting the GB i didnt take armor damage (also in a TIE adv so large hitbox than a bell).

The Vette gunboats are no concern, the fly straight and level so long as the Vette does (until you pick off the rearmost and the other moves into that position). Mission gunboats are a royal pain. Oh, for that Storm Squadron one, I think I took out the X-Wings first (if they get ahead of all the others, they're fair game) then the Novas, and the gunboat had a harder time hitting somebody strafing a different target than itself.

A fast ship, a big gun, a good shield. Then, strafing runs, over and over again, rolling and dodging as you go in. And make sure you don't fly in a straight line towards a gun. And make sure you have cap-shield shunt 4 in your droid.

Vette gunboats are much easier than mission gunboats. If you were able to take out 2 T5 gunboats you'll have no troubles with the vette. Take out gun #5 on the vette and the gunboats are all yours.

Not sure if you are doing the Reb or Imp vette but....

For Reb gunbats just gut under their belly and blast away. It always helps to disable but you don't need to if you can kill it before the vette reaches a roll point.

For Imp gunboats you'll want to hit the blind spot under the belly. Unlike Reb gunboats, the Imp guys have 2 cannons underneath. One on the tail and one under the nose I believe. If you are too far forward or too far back you'll get clipped. But if you hit that blind spot and take out weapon #2 (the tail gun) then the Imp gunboat is just as easy to off as the Reb.

Also, do be sure to kill the gunboats either before or after you kill the vette. There is a bug that will screw up the respawn of the vette if the gunboats are not destroyed. So help out the next poor soul who is waiting for it and kill those gunboats.

Well, I took out gun 5, primary shield, secondary shield and the engines, I did have to scuttle once. Then I'm sitting there trying to hit the reactor without taking out the guns and an imp pilot comes by and bomberstrikes it and finishes off the reactor and I used my last two missiles to take out the bridge.

Unfortunately one of the guns on the vette disabled his weapon and he had to hyper out to get it fixed. I had assumed he was master but apparently he needed to kill the vette too but didn't get credit. Felt kinda bad about that. Thanks Ecks(sp?)!

But woohoo I'm done with leveling! Now to get my Krayt!

You can hit the Vette guns from an angle that they can't hit you at. Any angle works, but approaching from ahead or behind, a bit low and to the side, should give you a shot.

A 1700ish energy capacitor? Is this a level 8 cap? It must be heavy...

The vette is all strategy, you'll be fine for it. Just approach from the bottom and take out weapon #5. Then you can take out the gunboats and the vette at your leisure.

Armor has saved my bacon too many times to not pack it.
