Don't bother testing for a Rebel version--there is one, and both my characters have them.

There is a version for all 3 factions. The best thing abour being ithorian and switching factions is getting more stuff i can't wear.

Yeah, Imperial wookiees and Ithorians get the two pocketed bandolier, Freelance get the Mercenary Bandolier, and Rebels get a multi-pocketed bandolier.

I don't remember what the multi-pocketed one looks like... but that's good to know!

I just recently saw rumor of this floating around these boards, so I made an alt on Starsider to check the veracity.

The so-called "Imperial Bandoleer" is 100% true. Wookiees (and Ithorians, I presume) get it instead of a TIE suit after their third Imperial mission. You'll find it listed on the Bazaar as "Two Strap Bandoleer" under the "Wearable Containers" section. It looks like the default color for normal two-strap bandoleers, but it holds up to 50 items like a backpack. It seemed to cling closer to my Wookiee than the standard two-strap bandoleer, though. I.e. it got lost in his fur more than the standard one. Apparently, any Imperial pilot can wear it.

Tonight or tomorrow, I'm going to test whether or not there's a Rebel version.

P.S. As of last night, there were none of these actually available on my home server of Kettemoor on the Bazaar or in the Bazaar's vendor listings.
