Thread: Duel Night; Starsider

Hi. After much hassling from that big bully known as Halyn ( ), I caved and said I'd go ahead and organise duel nights on Starsider, should the interest be there. Now, I'm in Deepspace regularly, like everynight and I see people up there, but I think the task is to encourage some of the newer players etc.

However, duelnights won't take place in DS, they'll alternate between systems, ones which seem to generate the least amounts of lag and those which offer some interesting terrain. I had a few ideas, such as duels which took place within asteroid fields etc.

Anyway. This thread is for people to say if they're interested, make suggestions and tell me what nights are good. Personally, I think they'd be cool on Tuesday nights or Friday nights (because that works out best for me if I'm organisingand leaves the saturdays free for any future Saturday pvp events). Anyone else who'd like to help organise would be welcome, especially if they were of the Imperial veteran standing. I know on SS, there have been certain issues between factions and one of my aims is to resolve them through individual/group non faction biased dueling. Yes, that means sometimes I want Imps and Rebels to team up together. I think that'd be somewhat fun personally.

For the first few times, I guess it'll be very much Rebels vs. Imperials however, as I said I would like to see if this took off, Imperials and Rebels mingling and grouping together for certain duels.

As for betting, spectating and competition, well initially the organisation of that will be the responcibility of the parties interested, however I don't know if Ramona and her administrational skills would give me a hand in setting somthing like that up if there was a demand for it.

I also appreciate that there is a wide range of equipment and some people have arguements against the use of relics. My oppinion is that if you don't like fighting relics, don't duel a relic pilot but they will be allowed in events. Any duel I take part in would of course be in an A-wing. Additionally, I appreciate too that some people have awesomely re'd parts whereas some people have under par gear or re's in process. In those cases, again it is down to the individual pilot to accept a duel or to partake in a group challenge. While I'm organising, arguements against other pilot's ships and gear will not be tolerated as it is a pilots responcibility to choose what they wish to attack.

Imperial Guard Interceptors are an anomolly, as they will be banned for 'house' events but not for personal events.

Ideas:

1.House events. These are events organised through the organising body and which will have a time slot in which to take place. For example, if a group or two pilots came to me and said "we wish to take part in a house event" then they'd get advertisement and a date in which to duel where people would get time to bet on them etc.*

Additionally, the 'house'** will organise and promote competitions where pilots can sign up to take part in and will have time to organise theselves into teams etc ready. The organising body will also make the rules for these events

2.Personal/PA/Group battles. These are organised on the basis on which we're used to, by pilots who after (or maybe before) 'House' events who on the night might wish to duel a friend can go ahead and do so for all to watch.

*Betting. Not sure exaclty how that'd work. We'd need a completely trustworthy neutral party to handle it and is just an idea. It isn't essential.

**the 'House'. Currently thats me , but I really wish to organise this so other people can goout and organise this even when I'm not there. In fact, I'd like to be as free from responcibility as possible. I like organising and pvp, but I'm not one for individual disputes or resolving them

Ok then, well they're just some ideas. I would love to see it happen and thrive. Starsider has some of the best pilots in the galaxies and I'd like to show them off to other galaxies through eventually offering spectating facilities* as well as keeping everyone busy and fulfilling the thirst for good old fashioned, pvp.

*I mentioned Ramona earlier but anyone who is interested, feel free to apply. I picture Luxury Yachts packed with spectators, gamblers and drunks at a distance from heated battles taking part around asteroids etc.

Anyway. What do you think?

Some thoughts on how things have been done and some ideas for future improvement--

1.) Let people set up their own duels. As the administrator of duel nights, act more as a record keeper than a referee. Allow duelists to challenge each other to matches and set rules (e.g. missiles, distance to start, etc). That really eliminates most of the problems with relics and RGIs--if a pilot doesn't want to face one of those down, he doesn't have to.

2.) Definitely do it in different types of terrain--asteroid fields, wrecked space stations, active space stations, and so forth. I can give you some suggestions, if you'd like--I tend to like running PvP events in a wide variety of terrain, if you hadn't noticed. (Events I organized included Trade Federation wreckage at Naboo, the frigate at Endor, Station-Star 1 at Tatooine, and Solar Phoenix 2 in the Karthakk system, plus the wrecked Rebel station and derelict corvette at Yavin IV. Regular open space is boring. )

3.) Bets could be handled by either a third party or just trust people to be honest among themselves. :: shrug :: I prefer not to have organized betting, but that's just me.

4.) Heavy RP on this--I'll see if I can dig up some of Cody's stuff when he used to run it.

5.) Spectators--let's try to bring a yacht or two out to wherever the duel night is being held.

6.) Time--run it for an hour, or maybe two hours. I like Thursday nights, personally, but I'll try to attend whenever it is held if I can. Friday nights are often busy, though.

Have the betting take place on the yachts... and do massive advertisements in the large cities prior to launch (for spectators, etc)...

Tuesday Night Fights

Thursday Night Fights

You know what would be cool too? A NASCAR style PVP event. Crafted Components Only - though impossible to enforce.

Oh another idea for the events -

An escort event...

1 POB + 2-4 Escorts vs 2-3 Raiders.

No missiles for the raiders.

Love the idea of a duel night and I would be more than happy to participate.

As far as the fear of component decay I am sure that respawn will not be as rushed as in the mass battles so there should be plenty of time for a trip to DS.

Exactly. Plenty of time for repairs, and with the high number of Rebels running around, most of us would be more than willing to /vrepairother any Imperial or privateer pilots with blown out parts to let them limp to DS.
