I POSTED THIS IN MY GALAXY FORUM AND IT WAS PRETTY INTERESTING SO I THOUGHT I WOULD TEST IT OUT HERE AS WELL...
This might be a completely insane idea....
that having been said...
The other night I was thinking about how a well organized battle of say "13 vs. 13" ships in space would be so awesome. As I sat there trying to figure out if this could be something that would function, I realized that if certain limitations/rules were placed such as # of ace pilots/tier4/tier3.... say 4 of each and 1 (mandatory) Nova/Decimator/YT-1300. If that and ONLY that set up of "13 vs. 13 fleet on fleet" battle were to be set up, it might, MAYBE come down to a tactics battle.
I don't know how viable this plan can be... I mean what if each fleet begins the first wave with aces, and one side has a phenominal victory in just that first wave,... it'd be slaughter... but still,... deception and planning just might, MAYBE play a part in that many ships... with each ship having its own unique role
(i.e. a tier 3 ship set to solely drop a space bomb at the most opportune moment, a b-wing set to image rec EACH enemy target and another tier4 solely functioning as a decoy flying a JSF flying in the VERY front with top notch armor/engine/chaff/shields and pathetic weightless guns so it appears to be the obvious ACE leader while the real ace is all set to go in a... ummm... friggin Dunelizard )
I DON'T KNOW!!!
Just thought it would be fun to see if tactics could hold a candle to the UBER "fly in, blast everything" typical battle plan
identifying the aces, tier 4s and others can be done with the "search by profession" b4 launching and 2 refs for each side (one Imp, one Reb in starter ships)post up at each side's "GO" point (5k apart) and ensure that the groups established on the ground are the ones there in space. Then the refs say "when" and watch to ensure the dead do not try to hyper back into kessel/deepspace and rejoin the fight.
Last ship (or ships of only one side) standing determines the winning fleet!!! We all land and meet at a designated starport/cantina to HOORAH and discuss the battle over drinks
It would be cool to see ALOT of ARC's (3 players in each vessel) and Agressors (2 players - I actually don't know what tier the agressor is certed) just laying down hellfire!!!
Anyhow... there's my space fantasy
FROM A LATER POST FOLLOWING THAT...
What I was thinking in the original post was that by having 5-10K in between the IMP start point and the REB start point, the admiral of each fleet can decide who he/she wants making the initial engagement and who for the final sweep,... and the roles of each of the other ships. By establishing pre-set speeds to advance at the "go", if the other side just races toward the planned out side at max spped, they could very well encounter 4 ships all at once while their wingman is still 600m behind and therefore of no help!
Establishing each ships set speed to move-to-contact will automatically distinguish which wave they will be in
Please discuss and comment (i'd prefer not to regret saying that! LOL)

A galaxies shared PvP space zone would be a good start.
The main problem with fleet engagements is getting the numbers of pilots up high enough without having to "orginize" an Event.
Having pilots hypering in from the different galaxies would make such a zone a non stop fleet battle.
Don't know how well a server will handle all the traffic from us space junkies.

When I see a group of player enemies I usually think of the lone non-clone relic flyer as being probably the most capable flyer.

Given...
But in PvP where reputations are at stake... I've seen even the best pilot set aside his X-Wing and hop in a JSF!

pilots who fly JSF can hope for a "good" rep at best
guys that fly original JTL craft are the ones who become legends
I am sure I am not the only one who thinks this way

Then you would be massively missguided by my Krayt or Rihkxyrk. *grin*

Rebel jelousy? Where in the world do you get that?
I have no desire to fly ANY clone relic. Hand me the deed to a JSF and I'll wipe my hairy wookiee butt with it!

Errr...good luck getting 26 people.
LOL... got 16 so far... would have even more if we drop the lower tier requirements and allow more aces!
