I have never been able to figure out what each of the counter-measure launchers. For example, what is the difference between a chaff launcher and a sensory decoy launcher? Do they effect different types of missles or will they work with everything? What is the best?

Difference is in the effectiveness rating (min and max effectiveness of the counter-measure pack is experimented by the SW)

Chaff is the weakest

Sensor Decoy

Micro-Chaff

IFF

EM Emitter

I have also noticed that the first 3 will carry more shots per pack then the IFF and EM (using same resources, my IFF & EM packs will start at 7 shots before experimentation, white the other 3 will start at 11 if I remember correctly). Micro-Chaff seems to be a good balance of effectiveness, quantity, cost and mass.

If I fire 3 missiles at a target simulatiously, will my opponent have to fire 3 ECM's to counter the missiles?

From my experience, CMs won't decoy multiple missiles fired at different intervals, but I'm not positive about missiles fired simultaneously simply because it doesn't happen against NPCs. If I know a player is engaging me with missiles, I analyze his craft, if it's a B/X/Y-Wing, every missile warning I'll get, I'll dump two chaff - with A-Wings, one.

Personally, if you're flying straight and level enough for a human opponent to get a lock, you either weren't checking your ass properly, or you need to learn to shuck and jive.

Also, from my personal experience, Microchaff is the way to go. Plenty of headroom for effectiveness - the more points past 100.0000 you can get, the more of a chance the missile will be decoyed, as a higher max should effectively add onto the minimum.

Still, considering the goddamned COST of countermeasures, if you CAN take the hit, take it. If a PLAYER is shooting at you, dump 'em like hay.

Hehe...I managed to get a missle lock in Pvp against a buddy flying an exceptionally outfited a-wing. In our previous head on runs, we both approached each other doing erratic manouvers. On the last run, I chopped my throttles to almost zero at 650m, got lock and fired a pair of mark 4's. Boom, no more engine Other wise, that a-wing (and the pilot) were just too much for my opressor. Unless he made a mistake, I couldnt touch him.

In another fight, we both took hits, but my opponent knocked out my capacitor. I chopped my throttles and he swung around front to look me the "eye". Another lock, two more mark 4'sand no reactor. It was a cheap shot but we both got a good laugh out of it. We both know he won that dogfight

BTW, has anyone noticed the capacitor on the Oppressor gets hit often, almost before anything else takes damage? Is there a big red bulls eye painted on this thing?
