bah. I had a great infamlitory thing going. I've gotten lazy and instead say. I like it. I think it works good. I'm glad noone else seems to be able to work it cause that gives me an advantage.

Do you too like the Y-8?

DEVS: Don't touch the damn Y-8

I do have a question for you. Not trying to be mean, just really want to know how to get it to work. Does it require a crew of 2. A pilot and and a gunner to actually mine?

I just would love it to work with just a pilot, or crew of 1. That seems to be the big problem, but the devs haven't made any statement on it in any direction. To me, its frustrating.

You can mine with it with solo. Though it doesnt work so effeciently. A fighter packing two guns has it on that because the fighter can use a tractor beam. With a crew ( 2 min preferably 3-5) you can really start shaking and bakin. This is exponential. I would give my rightarm for a wing of Y-8s to park around a 'roid. It'd be spectacular how fast those things cleaned a 'roid out. Thats the thing though. To mine "effeciently" with a Y-8 you need a crew and then andonly then can you see how much butt they kick at mining.

To fly solo... you must be seated in pilot chair. That would be weapon slot 2 to put a miner laser there. Its alright. but seriously. Try and get two crewed ones together ... two words: BOX FORMATION.

hope it helps

SOME people can mine with it solo....others (like me) cannot. It is bugged, and the only place I can put a mining laser that works is in the top turret. The pilot turret will not break off chuncks. Sucks to be me. But others are having this same problem.

As for not changing the Y-8, I have to disagree. Playing what amounts to an expensive game of asteroids is not efficent or practical for mining. And most agree. Anyone with even half a clue about orbital mechanics or astro-dynamics knows that it would be really really really dumb to mine that way.

I'm glad it's working out for you, but it's not working out for the rest of us (sucks to be us) and you're right, you're probably at a great advantage for mining resources. But, I think there is a better, more efficent way to mine and still make it fun.

I really do like the look, scale and layout of the ship, with the exception of turret placement. It's an impressive ship in form, but in function it is lacking. I mine twice as fast if not faster in my oppressor, just due to the better manuverability and the fact that I can load two front firing weapons. I have to land to unload more frequently for sure, but even with that I still mine alot faster than I can with the Y-8.

If they were to give better firing arcs for the turrets, and beefed up performance for the Y-8 elite mining laser the ship would see alot more use.

"Basically, once you see the inner workings of the Dev team you realize their game model is really just grind and stall. Make the players grind and grind so they keep paying and when there are problems stall stall stall so they keep paying waiting for fixes. Really...all the cores that quit recently are the ones that have figured this out."

A little off topic here but i dont have ROTW, cause im buying it in the store so i cant get Y-8 for exactly one week from now. I was just wondering, whats the layout in the ship like? The other POB ships are kinda... small. I found it slightly dissapointing when i got my nova the it only had a cockpit, a medium sized room with windows, a small room, and a room that appears to be just an engine room or something cause of the engine access panel there. But is the Y-8 bigger? Like an actual capital ship? Because i saw screenshots on the friday feature a while back, and someone elso posted pictures from inside, but its hard to see how big it really is. Just out of curiosity, how many rooms are in it? And also, how many slots for equipment are there? How big is it really compared to the Nova? Sry i couldnt really provide an opinion on its functionality tho, it sounds like its full of bugs tho...

Nice and big, something like 8 rooms, but that's hardly a consolation since its so poorly designed for its intendted purpose.

It's pretty roomy. The lower level has smallish rooms (3 medium sized and 4 small, plus the two docking ports), but the upstairs is comfortably roomy. The "bridge" is the largest room. Righ tbehind it is a machinery-filled corridor that leads to the conference room in the back. I have pictures of the cockpit/bridge and the conference room on mine here:

Overall the usable space probably isn't that much larger than the yacht, but it's more spacious than the factional POB ships I think (though the Nova is the only one I haven't been on yet).

Mine works too, Can fit guns in any part, I have soloed with it but its dog slow compared to a krayt armed with 3 x MkIII mining laser, I dont bother with the tractor beam because I can vapourise 3 or 4 chunks in the time it takes to tractor one in (thus potentialy losing other chunks in the process).

The tractor beam would be top if it could tractor in the larger chunks so we dont have to split them again or if it had a AOE effect and could tractor in multiple chunks in one go. Also it could do with a bigger "got it" trigger zone. All to often Ive had a tractored in piece simply whizz past the turret / ship and Ive had to tractor it back the other way. I know using the tractor gives you more resource per chunk (roughly twice as much I think, confirmation? ) but as I said, in the krayt I my guns out perform tractoring.

I've gotten the Y-8 to "work". I'd say a crew of 2 minimum is required to use it effectively; I've placed a tractor beam in the main gun, and a mining laser in the top turret. Top turret blasts of chunks, then the pilot scoops them up. Works pretty well, and it can be pretty fun. Still, the ship could definitely be improved. More turrets I think would go a long way to fixing it up. Oh, and let us move furniture up and down inside, please!

Lol! Those were the screenshots i was talking about ! Anyways, sounds like when i get the expansion it might be worth getting a combat profession to do the quest to get it. Hopefully by then they will work all the damn bugs out tho... Btw, what combat level would you have to be if you wanted to do that quest? Or could u just get a lvl 80 to come with you to pretty much do it all for you lol.

ANYONE who is complaining about not being able to solo with the Y-8 is either very ignorant or just clueless about MMORPG. In these type of games, there are things you can do alone- kill midlevel monsters usually being the top activity. And there are things you cannot do alone. Usually, kill highlevel monsters.

The Y-8 is NOT MEANT to be a single man fighter. They would have made it very small otherwise. It is meant to be manned by a crew. anyoen who knows this fact and still wants to be able to mine in it aloneas effectively as witha whole crew is plain stupid.

I support the Y-8 as a POB ship meant to be manned by a crew, not one idiot pilot who wants to be able to do it alone.

[EDIT]OH- and dont mind me, just blowing off steam. Spent a few weeks running in circles with CSR and finally got somewhere. Thrilling.
