Ok, so maybe I am gonna get slapped for this...but when should we see about getting a new ship and how do we do it? I am about to start the tier two missions, but I still have my headhunter and I don't think it is gonna cut it, but I am afraid if I go get a y-wing, it will be slow as crap. Is speed just dependent on the engine you put in and not the ship? Please help.

Thanks.

Speed is determined by your engine * the chassis speed modifier. With the exact same engine, an A-Wing will go faster than a Y-Wing.

Yes, Y-Wings are slow, they're bombers. Have you considered a Heavy Z-95? Lots more mass than a normal Z-95 (95k mass) with the same handling.

You buy new ships from a Shipwright as blueprints, then take them to the Chassis Dealer in any starport. You pay him some cash and he turns the blueprints into a deed. You just get a bare ship though, you still need to fill it up with parts. Usually, looted parts are not as good as crafted parts, and crafted parts are not as good as REd loot. Looted < Crafted < REd.

Take a look at the Pilot FAQ, especially the droid commands bit, as well.

That help?

Yes it does, thank you. Just one question. What does REd mean? Is that a color or an abbreviation?

Thanks.

Reverse Engineered.

Simplest I can put it is a shipwright can take a number of looted parts, stick them in an analysis tool and make a ship part that has the best stats (mass, speed etc.) of those looted parts combined.

Kind of like slicing in space.

As a note, I have been using my Scyk Heavy (Exact same stats as a Z-95 Heavy) from Tier I to Tier IV Privateer. Of course... I redid privateer and loaded up my Scyk with Lvl 8 subcomponents before I retrained, but, for a Rebel, ashas been pointed out above, the Heavy will greatly outperform the Y wings. Max on your engines, and your weapons, Don't be afraid to use WEapon Overload THREE and Engine Overload three right from the get go (You should be able to load Both those programs in a lvl 2 astromech). Use the Bazaars to do a Galaxy wide vendor search (Misc category, I believe), with weaponoverload and Engineoverload in the search box. They sell cheap on Kauri (about 10K).

Get the best weapon you can, and the best Engine. For Weapon you are looking for .65, or better (Especially at lower levels. Some RE'd lvl 2 and 3weapons can be as high as .85)vs BOTH shields and Armor. The lower the refire rate the better. As mentioned above, look for RE'd parts there, and compare them to crafted. Early on you will have Plenty of Mass to play with. It's only around Tier IV that you will be squeezed for space. Shields and armor will save your bacon, but, with the Z-95 Heavy, you'll have far more manueverability than in the Y Wings, With a decent engine, Engine Overload Three, and a great deal of flying practice (Have you read the Sticky on learning how to fly?), you can emerge from many of your missions virtually unscathed. A GOOD weapon, Weapon Overload Three, a strategy of Disabling your foe (the ] key is default for cycling through your targets subcomponents) and very solid flying skills as well as the ability to BREAK off pursuit and turn to a new target if your current one is proving stubborn Will be vital. Just those two areas will make this all seem like cake.

Just bear one thing in mind. ALL of these early levels are Easily soloable. Easily. And, though I haven't done it, a great many people are soloing the Final Vet, and, Much, much tougher things. You CAN do it, and do it well, it take practice, good parts, and the knowledge that, eventually, you WILL prevail.
