Thread: Please kill the gunboats.
Totally agree, and this has been said many times before.
It's understandable that the excitement of getting master pilot means that you want to rush straight to your respective commanding officer without cleaning up the escort. But just remember those who come after you with the same anticipation of getting their ace helmet, only to find gunboats chasing each other in circles, and a two hour wait.
The only other solution other than common courtesy, is to make destroying the escorts part of the mission. Or even have them hype out at the exit point.
The Vette was just about on top of the Exit point and by the time I turned around to take out the GBs, they started circling the Exit point.
Being alone and ill-equipped to take out GBs, as in I had no Space Bombs, I whacked the vette, made two runs at the GBs and found that their circling made them nigh impossible on my own. So, I left them.
I am not glad that is how things turned out, but what else could one do? Get blown up continously?
No - sit out at about 550 meters and shoot, aiming for the engines. It takes a while, and you might have to move once in a while (since they're circling, they don't stay at exactly 550), but it can be done, even in a light ship like an A-Wing.
If you didn't know better, no harm no foul. I've seen a few folks do it purposefully because they just didn't care.
They may be circling but they're still stuck at the exit point, they only move say 10-20m in a circle so you can take em from 550m and not get a scratch.
Fair enough if you're a vette virgin but some people just leave them because they cant be bothered / don't care.

Personally I kill the gunboats before the vette though so they're never leftover.

Thats what I started doing, after having someone I was helping waiting for an hour and a half before I even jumped into kessel, then I killed the gunboats, then had to wait another hour and 45 minutes before they vette shoved up. Have them check the exits first.
Always, ALWAYS remember to clean up after yourself.
Are you really my wife?
I can't believe this is still an issue. There are so many posts out there on how to solo a gunboat. Laziness stinks...
Wasted about 8 hours sat twiddling my thumbs because people won't take that extra 5 minutes to clear up the vette's escort after taking it out.
Please please please (especially pilots on radiant) take out the gunboats when you take out the vette
It's not hard, they travel in a straight line, you can quite happily shoot them from 541m and not get hit once.
As many have said before if you can't take out these floating boxes of free XP then you don't deserve the master pilot title.
Sorry for the rant but it's common courtesy.
