Started playing around with this recently, once I got used to it I found it easier to aim and felt very cinematic, plus i can see where I'm at in relation to the target. Is it any good for PvP?

You mean 3rd person view?, ive never used anything else.
I should say it does have some drawbacks, while in close youre likely to shoot under the target (if using the green rectical to target them) you have to aim about a centimeter above that to hit them square in the rear.
On the plus side its not as jerky as 1st person i find, and i *think* you can see more parifially.

No thats not what I mean, if you push num lock the camera will automatically focus on your target instead of behind your ship.
Edit: Its specifically called 'Camera Target Lock'

Only time I use that is when I'm maneuvering around a corvette, gunboat or ISD to find the right angle of attack.
Though usually I don't bother with it because I use a joystick and using the hat is closer. I use 1st person perspective with cockpit turned off too fyi.

Me too. When in 3rd person view, I feel like my ship gets in the way. But I like to use 3rd-person when i'm not fighting to see my ship because its purdy.

I only use third person views to look at my ships sometimes. If I'm actually flying, I'm in my cockpit. Pilots should be in their cockpits, that's what they are built for.

I use it as a POB pilot to help establish position for my gunners, or when I'm going at it with the ISD under fire from its fighter screen to determine pursuit strength. Other than that, its all about the screenshots.

I use it a lot depending on the situation. So much so that I bound it to my middle mouse button.

It seems more useful in 3rd person view, I was using it against the Vette to set up runs.
