Thread: Does component labeling matter to you?

I'm looking for some input on my product labeling. I'veproduced some of the best stuff on the server so I'm not worried about quality but I would like to know how pilots in general feel about the names of their parts.

I label all of my products starting with the acronym for my business (QSI). Then I go on to list abbreviated stats of the item in the name as well usually starting with what was experimented and ending with reactor drain, mass and such.

Do you mind or do you feel that many others mind to the point that they would not buy a superior AND more moderately priced product simply because the item doesn't have a cool name like SuperDuper Ionic Engine Mk3.....etc?

It seems to me that I'm making it much more convenient to search the comps by enabling youto see what it does without actually loading it's data page.

Thoughts?

I like names that explain how you altered the basic item.

If it has an upgrade, you can list that. Or I see some SWs just put YPR model vs. speed model. Or low mass armor version. Quickshot blasters, stuff like that.

"Creative" names I wouldn't really mind, but they might be harder to sell because people are unfamiliar with them. Sticking to the base item name might be a safer approach. But the vendor search will pick up alternatively named items too. So I dunno.

I label mine in all caps in this format

RE LVL <NUMBER TYPED)> <ITEM TYPE>

the all caps helps to prevent accidentally selling it

for crafted just put what it isand what upgrade you added and buisness tag

To be honest, labeling makes no difference to me. I pay attention to stats. The only time the name of the part matters is when going for a particular look. Some engines/boosters/weapons have different looks and the weapons have different energy bolts, so if I'm looking for a particular item, having it renamed to something else in the RE process might make things confusing, but the Bazaar picks em out anyway, so not really an issue.

Personaly a short descriptive name is best for me... like Mark II Quickcharge Cap. (as an example) is helpfull but I am going to look at the part in detail before I buy it anyway.

Tipicaly I tend to shy away form items with "leet" names most offten it speeks of shoddy workmanship and over inflated prices but ultimatly I seek parts that a) show stats in vendor search or look like they are on a well stocked vendor b) have a name that doesn't make them hard to find in a pile of loot c)have the actual stats I am looking for! (This being most important.)

As far as putting your tag on an item... well honestly I don't keep tract of where I got most of my crafted components and it is unlikely for me to look at where I got something more than once but I do find myself in the same shops over and over again because a good shipwright who knows what pilots want is more valuable than a name any day.

I don't usually care at all what an item is named, so long as it is not so obnoxious that I don't want to look at it. I have no problem with stats in the name, as long as it is not going overboard with an overly long string of characters. Keep it simple with only the most important info and I'd be fine with it.

You are QSI?

I just bought a reactor, and 2 blasters from you because of one reason. I searched the bazaar and no one had better info directly in the title of thier components then you. the 2 level 7 blasters I bought with the refire rate around .245, unbelievablely sweet, since I dont have many components yet for REing.

keep up the good work

Thanks, mate. Glad you like the guns.

Thanks to the rest of you as well for the input. I think I'll stick with what I'm doing for a while.

Thanks to the ability to search for exact components through the bazaar/vendor system, coupled with the ability to examine the stats of individual items through the system, names don't hold THAT much of a priority to me (it is, afterall, gonna be stuffed in my ship to be hidden until replaced).

BUT... When searching the bazaar/vendors, the items that have the STATS of the component are more likely to ge the first look from me. I usually check these items out first and, 9 times out of 10 buy, them. I'll buy a plain jane dull-named just as readily, though. It's the STATS that matter to me

I've just gotten into SW as a respec on one of my alts.
(Going SW/Pilot/Various gun profs, just to up the cl a bit)

I hate long names, ALL CAPS, and too many stats in any crafted item.
I like seeing the actual item name, and breif stats if required.
For weapons, something like speed/base dps/sac. Foods, amount of buff/duration.
You get the idea.
After that basic info, an abbreviated name and/or vendor local is fine, none of that 'SuperFrigginCoolBadAssCrafteingCompany - MyCity, Talus 3948 -3921' garbage.

For RE'd items that I'm keeping, I label them as 'MyName - (part type) - CertLevel', though I still toying with naming conventions.

I don't really sell anything, as I've not gotten to much stuff yet.
If I'm just RE'ing to try for disks, I leave a default name even though I may sell it on the bazaar.
When I do start RE'ing specifically to sell, I'm thinking something along the lines of:

Ragnarok Modified Engine - 83/79/79/89 - Stawei's LLC, -3248 5281 Lok (not my real place of business)

Which I know is getting close to the long naming I said I hate, but as I said, I'm still toying with naming conventions, and I may have to accept the fact that some items must have long names.

Bug fixes. Heh! Smuggling. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things.

My SWG Observations

If they stopped the expansions for one year and gave quality revamps to the professions that need it most, many people would resubscribe.
With all the resubs, and the new players, there would then be plenty of money to hire enough people to do 2-4 quality revamps per year plus 1-2 larger expansions per year and/or 2-4 smaller expansions per year, and not give the BigWigs a pay cut. (Possibly even an increase)

If im buying crafted comps (usually when im feeling lazy and dont feel like making them myself), i prefer a short, direct, and to the point labeling. Three letters is ok, that way if the products are any good, i can spot them more easily on the market.

For example
MK II Reactor (ICE)

If i feel(ICE) makes good parts, ill look for the label on the market. Sometimes parts turn up on other vendors. I can find your shop if i like your work, and personnaly i dont need to have a label saying what you did with it, as an experienced player, i can tell by looking at it, you don't need to tell me. But thats just me.

Now real long namings.. i dont like. I have to look at that every time i view my components and "MK II reactor - VIPER SHIPYWARDS -3330 3000 w/ overdriver", is damn bloody annoying

When REing for all items I deem sell worthy I tend to go with "RE Series I Reactor" if it is a weapon I tend to go "RE Series II Red Blaster" of course that changed depending on the vs shields/armor ect..

I don't have the resource stock to actually craft anything yet but if I did I would prob put my companies name followed but the product and any modifications "Starbow AdvanceBlue Blaster" prob along thoes lines. Once I can actually make these I will make the naming decision.

I like having the company name in there that way if people think I make good stuff they know I made it. (yea i know they can look at the created by thing too)
