If you saw the size of the bloody thing from the inside you'd know why - It's massive (and so needs a pilot with awareness) and needs lv 9/10 equipment to be able to move at all. Also it's a POB ship so the devs want to make sure only aces can fly POB's. It has got a couple of turrets now, and 2 more after pub 24, and so it will have the capacity for a lot of firepower so only aces can be allowed to fly it, after all, if a 2222 pilot could fly it they could still dump a ton of decent turrets in it making it more dangerous than a single ace fighter if fully manned.

hehe your looking at it to realisticly it is just a game... if you realy wanted to complain about having to be an expert in a certain field to use something just look at weapons
only a master rifle man can use a t21, in real life anyone can pull a trigger and most guns are very similar to the next
its just the way the game works to use the nice stuff you have to be over qualified, its also a way of rewarding players for mastering especialy with pilot, personaly i ground pilot mainly so i could have a nice multi person ship and consider the ability to use a y-8 part of my reward for mastering pilot =]

The poster is correct, the ship is in my opinion the largest ship playable in the game so far. The bridge is designed like a Star Destroyer Bridge, with the walkways and pits. Behind the Bridge is a control type room, then a conference room after that, the best feature of the ship in my opinion. This conference room has a bay of windows, and can hold a table and chairs, to look like the observation lounge on the USS Enterprise-D from Star Trek The Next Generation.

Take the turbolift up to reach the top turret, or take it down to reach "The Long Corridor". Along this corridor is 4 rooms of various sizes on each side, and a large room at the end of the corridor, so a total of nine additional rooms. Take the turbolift down and reach the rear facing turret. Now the forums state that with Publish 24, the mining quest will be fixed and that 2 more turrets will be added to the Y-8. I have no idea where they will place access to these turrets, unless they redesign the ship, and since I have a pre-publish Y-8, I will likely miss out of this new feature.

Since this ship is currently glitched up, and needs 3 people to mine, I use it as a party barge. There is great views out of the ship, except from the pilot seat, and can be a fun ship to have. It is a ship worthy of the Master Pilot title. Hope this little guided tour of the Y-8 helps a little.
