Thread: Star Destroyer lag in DS
whenever i get in there and it starts firing i have to leave as its totally unplayable

quite a few of the screenshots I've seen posted on the pilot forums from experienced pilots seem to show the texture settings on some extremely low level, presumabely to up the FPS so that when the ISD does fire it doesn't cripple your system- however it looks horrible and I can't bring myself to make the game look horrendous just to be able to fly smoothly when the ISD does open up.
people say you can get a machine capable of handing it when the ISD opens fire, and then someone else will post better specs and say they are full of it. then athird guy will postsaying the first guy didn't fight the ISD when it was up against a full corvette spawn.but the bottom line is this never used to happen and when the CU went live this started.
maybe it's a bug, something changed with the way the game handles laser graphics. maybe it's the fact that the ISD now shoots all 101 guns through itself at whatever it's aiming at to beat exploiters that camped inside it. maybe it's the additional invisible guns inside the ship.
i'm sick of cleaning ships off it's hull to unlag the zone though.
I used to have a GeForce 4 ti 4200, but just upgraded to a Geforce 6600GT 250mb card. I have 1.5gig of ram and a AMD 2ghz cpu and I no longer lagg when the ISD flares up. I have tested this several times with the network monitor running. The lowest fps I drop to is 17, which is enough for me to PvP close by. So as I have only changed my GFX card I think it's a system issue as to a server issue.

i dont think it's server lag though because then everyone would experience the same amount of it, and it'd probably be consistantly bad throughout the zone. you do see people with 20 fps and people with 5 fps. i know i have friends that drop down to 2fpswhere as I usually hover around 6 or 7.i definately agree it started with the CU/Rotw though.
It started when they tried to "fix" the blind spots on the ISD. The ISD now covers those areas with stupid amounts of laser fire which is where the lag came from.
But other than upgrading the computer proccessor and video card, and getting a faster internet connection... not much.
I usually just run up to the thing and start making eratic movments while holding down the trigger and trying to aim in the general direction of whatever system I'm aiming at, and I can take it out.
