Hello. I have done this a few times now and I wanted to write a little guide to help other pilots, so here it goes.
Q: What is a Nym's Starmap cross-server swap?
A: This is an agreement between you and a player from another server to create level 1 characters on each others' server then help those characters through the "Nym's Starmap" quest. When the quest is completed the level 1 characters will give the rewards to their host and delete the character.
Q: Why would I do this swap?
A: The Nym's Starmap rewards have very random stats, but those stats can come out much better than anything you could ever hope to loot. Someone who was lucky when they did their quest could have a advantage over someone who was unlucky. A swap allows you to try to get lucky again if you were unlucky the first time. The quest normally cannot be repeated by the same character twice. You may also wish to sell the rewards to other players on your server, or use the extra rewards to outfit multiple ships.
Q: Does it matter if I have not done Nym's Starmap quest myself yet?
A: Not really, but you should definitely do it yourself first so you know what is going on. Experience makes the swap go faster, plus you might get lucky your first try and not need a swap. You can find a good guide here.
Ok, so how is it done?
SETUP:
First you need to find a partner from another server. You need someone who doesn't have any characters on your server, or that has a character that is willing to give up his or her Nym's Starmap rewards. You must have a similar situation on their server.
Next you will need a starmap. Go to the downed escape pod west of Narmle, Rori (-5720 -2490). The map spawns every 15-30 minutes or so. Make sure to get a map BEFORE you schedule a swap. Your guest will not be happy if you have to wait around for a map to spawn. Also be courteous to other players who want to do the quest especially if its their first time. Don't be a map hog.
Finally you will need some ground transportation. Your guest from another server will probably not have a vehicle so you'll either want to provide one for them such as a cheap swoop or you can just use a multi-person vehicle to drive them around in.
As an option you may also want to buy some Parwan Nutricake. This is a special food that allows you to burst run more often. If you do the runs perfectly you won't need any Parwan, but if you like to play it safe you can grab some.
A second optional is a multi-passenger space vehicle. Normally the guest can get some space transportation, but it may come in handy for the host to transport the guest, especially on the trip to Kashyyyk.
GETTING STARTED:
Ok, now you have the essentials. There will be two quest runs per swap, one on your server and one on your partner's server. You will have to agree on who will do the quest first. When you finish the first then you'll do the quest on the other server. If you are worried that your partner will ditch you if you go to his or her server first then you can just hang on to the rewards until both runs are complete.
There are three roles on a run: The host, the guest, and the ringer.
The HOST is the person who lives on the server you're questing on. The host will provide the starmap, transportation, and anything else needed to complete the quest.
The GUEST is the visitor to the server who creates a level 1 character.
The RINGER is a character with a high Combat Level, preferrably CL80. The Ringer and the Host can be the same character, but if the host is low level he should find a Ringer buddy. The main function of the ringer is to group with the guest so that the guest is not so easily slain in combat.
ENTER THE GUEST:
Now as the guest you should create your character on your partner's server. Good species to choose are Trandoshan, Wookiee, and Ithorian. Ithorians are probably the best because they have +300 extra health compared to the base (ie, human.) Wooks and Trandos also have bonus health. In the end the choice is yours.
Space transportation - As the guest you should make an effort to get some space transportation. If you have the Sorosuub Yacht veteran reward that's excellent. You can create a new one at any starport if you somehow get separated from your first ship. If you aren't elidgeable for a yacht consider joining the Smuggler's Alliance in the back of the Mos Eisley cantina, which is the city your new character will begin in. Make sure to pester the pilot trainer into giving you a free ship.
Controls - As a new level 1 player your controls will be set to the default. If you have customized your keys and simply cannot live without your custom keys its your responsibility to get these set up (hopefully ahead of time so you don't keep your host waiting long.)
Macros & Abilities - When you make a new level 1 character you will still have all the same macros as your other characters on your account. You just have to open the abilities window and grab them. The one macro that you really should have is a "/bactashot me" macro. As a newbie you start with some modest ability to heal yourself that can really come in handy. With this macro you can be sure only to heal yourself and not your host accidentally.
Equipment - Keep one of your starter CDEF weapons handy. Keep it unequipped when running, but you'll need it later.
THE RUN:
Ok, its finally time to get started. The host and ringer should meet the guest at the Mos Eisley starport on Tatooine, which is where the guest's level 1 character will start. If the guest has space transportation then you can both meet at Narmle, Rori instead.
Part 1: Fort Tusken
Form your group and the host will give the starmap to the guest. The guest will read the map and begin the starmap quest. The guest should talk to Nym in the Narmle Hotel and get the next portion of the quest.
The group should now fly to Mos Espa, Tatooine. Your goal is Fort Tusken. Hopefully your server has a player town near Fort Tusken, otherwise you'll have to hoof it from wherever is closest. If there is a player town nearby the guest's starting cash of 1000 credits should be enough to buy a trip there and back.
Once you arrive at the fort go to the cave entrance on the bottom, don't go up to the fort itself. The guest should burst run into the cave past all the tuskens, while healing if necessary. Once the guest arrives at the pool, click on the box to your left and select "Use". Now part 1 is complete. Exit the cave via foot or the cloner. The group should meet back up in Narmle.
Part 2: Kashyyyk Trandos
When the guest returns to Narmle talk to Nym and receive the level 8 armor reward. Make sure to talk to Nym again and get the next part of the quest! Nym will send you to Kashyyyk. If the host has multi-passenger space transportation the guest should probably hitch a ride with them since the host may have access to a faster ship. Launch into space and the group should head to Kashyyyk.
Once on Kash head to the Trando camps. The guest should equip their weapon and target the ringer. Whenever the ringer attacks a trando the guest should attack the ringer. By attacking a group-mate you will instead attack their target. This way you can be sure the guest and ringer are attacking the same target without a hassle. Make sure the guest hits each trando before they die so that they will get quest credit. When you kill enough trandos for the quest return to Narmle. If the guest arrived in the host's ship the host should remember to wait for the guest and not leave him or her stranded.
Part 3: Dathomir (aka, the hard part.)
When the guest returns to Narmle talk to Nym to get the level 7 shield reward. Make sure to talk to Nym again to get the next part of the quest! Nym will send you to Dathomir. The guest should tell the host the stats of the shield. Head to the Dathomir Outpost now (the northern landing spot), the ringer is not really needed anymore but he or she should remain in the group.
Once on Dathomir head to the Nightspider Cult Cave (I think that's the name...) This is dangerous territory for the guest so drive safely. Once you arrive at the cave try to shake agro if you're in combat. If you can't, don't fret. The guest should burst run into the cave and run past the agro. Use your heal macro if you get hit. It helps a lot to know the location of the corpse ahead of time so hopefully this isn't the guest's first run. Right click the corpse and select "Use" and that part of the quest is completed. If the guest is slain before he or she can select the corpse you'll have to try again. Once complete the guest can run back out or just leave via the cloner. Head back to Narmle.
In Narmle talk to Nym and receive the level 8 engine reward. Tell your host the stats ASAP because they'll be dying to know.
Part 4: Han Solo
If your host cares about the level 10 weapon reward the guest can pretty much finish this part themselves, there's no combat involved.
Finish:
When you're done with the first run do the same steps again on the other server. Good luck on those QIDs!
CONCLUSION:
Ok, I wrote a lot on what is actually pretty simple, but I know when I first heard about it I thought "That would be impossible as a level 1." This is to show you it is HIGHLY possible to get a level 1 through Nym's Starmap.
Also the biggest bummer in working with strangers is wasting time. I tried to include all the tips I could think of to prepare you ahead of time to make your swap as smooth as possible. Feel free to add your own tips.
