I'm taking my crafter through the Freelance Piloting and started on Corellia to work out some customer related aggression.... Have gotten through tier 1 ok, but on the tier 2 quest "recover stolen goods" in which you have to capture the Nym freighter, how exactly do you do that? I went in, killed the 2 escorts, looked at the misison log and it told me to disable the engines, so I shot the craft down to 50% shields (front only I assume) 50% armour (same) 0% Systems and like 25% chasis. Now I try to dock, and no go, try to inspect and it says there is nothing on the ship?? Is there a capture command or do I need a tractor beam type thing or something?
Also, what kind of pointers can a vet pilot give me on killing a tier 3 tie advanced, my mark I concussion missiles take their shields down a whopping 1%... as a 1111 freelance pilot, should I simply grind out till I can use better equipment? Or are there some level 3 launchers and Ordinance that is good.
One last thing, looted components, is it better to use them or have them re-engineered?
thanks

did you actually disable the engines? The [ and ] target specific systems. Once you have that disabled, and as long as you have the correct ship, you should be able to inspec and/or dock with the ship.

in the same little window where you saw how much damage you did, now hit the [ or ] key and watch that window, it should say Reactor 100% or engine 100%. on disable missions scroll till its showing the engine and make that disappear. you will then see on screen as well "you have disabled your target" at that point you can go pillage the ship by using the docking command("U" in a default key config).
as for ship parts looted is just fine but if you know a shipwright try and hold onto parts that have the same "reverse engineering level", if ths RE2 guns then you need two of them for the SW to RE them. basicly the number of parts needed for an RE is the same as the RE level. RE parts are generally better then loot because the act of RE'ing takes all the best stats from the items put in plus alittle bonus, this is why you hear about people with high power toys on the light mass ships.

By using the [ ] keys on the keyboard, you can cycle various subsystems on a ship to disable it. By destroying the reactor or the engine, you will be able to dock with it at that point.

A single tier 3 ship should be an easy kill for a 1111 pilot. In fact, a single tier 5 ship should be an easy kill as well. Missiles of any level are only good for destroying subsystems on the Corvette (and for copping out in PvP). They aren't very effective damage-wise on normal targets.
Make sure you have the best engine and best gun(s) you can use at your level, and pretty much point and shoot. I find it makes aiming easier if you use the Match Target Speed command (the "m" key on the keyboard, or map to your controller) repeatedly to make sure you're going the same speed as your target. To ensure this, it helps to have an engine faster than your opponent. Otherwise, you'll simply need experience to know where to aim between the target ship and the lead reticle in order to land hits. Generally a little behind the green targeting reticle is good.

If they're better than the crafted gear you can find/afford, use em til you have enough to get them reverse engineered. Parts are always better after REing than before, but in a pinch it's ok to use them without REing. In order to reverse engineer, you'll need a number of similar parts equal to their RE level. For example, 4 level 4 engines, or 2 level 2 guns. The great quest, of course, is 10 level 10 engines
thanks
Good luck!

thanks to everyone for your help, I had no idea about the "[ ]".
my lasers are max dmg 420 and 468, and my max speed is 398, guessing that is low though. I'm ina Dunelizard, my power core is only 11k generation, but it has only 1k mass which is nice. Is there any way to reload your missiles in space? My launcher holds 12, but that seems to be it...

nope you cant reload your rockets in space, unless your a high tier rebel(its a special ability that summons a ship, the ammo isnt free). basicly its best to allways have the best guns possible and save the rockets for those really rough targets. such as ones with tailguns who need their shields blasted fast so the engines and rear gun can be disabled.
