Ok, I just finished all of the Tier 2 missions with the RSF and since I'm not going to fly again until tomorrow at earliest, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask the experienced pilots a few questions.
1) Will I need to upgrade my ship? - Currently, I'm using the Dunelizard and I've grown to like it very much. However, my goal is make ace and I would like to know if the Dunelizard is unfeasable for this?
2) How progessively harder do the missions get? - The tier 2 missions were underwhelming for me (one hadme fight tier 1 ships that I was toasting in 2 shots or so). The duty missions were pretty fun though, especially the one given by the Naboo Space Station that had me fightinga couple of tier 3 X-Wings and Z-95 in the Lok System.
3) Does the AI get any smarter? - The tier 2 and 3 pilots do not seem any better then tier 1 (only better equipment). Are the tier 4 and 5 guys any better or are they the same old stiffs out there, resorting to swarm tatics. It would be nice to see a NPC being able to put up a challenge in a one on one fight.
4) Does PvE develop bad habits for PvP? I'm probably going to do PvP sooner or later. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to unlearn bad habits in addition to having to greatly step up my game when entering PvP (I realize that it will be a harsh learning curve before I can hold my own out there).
I also installed a droid program on my ship (idea came from reading these boards)and I have to say it almost made things too easy. My capciator had a 50% increase and the shield shut covered for some lapses in flying against the missle carrying bombers. Currently, I'm having a pretty good time (when not doing escort missions) and I look forward to flying in the near future.

1 - The dunelizard is fine until master. You might want to try out the other ships though, they all have their ups and downs. Rihk especially is a great hard hitter.
2 and 3 you'll just have to wait and see. Should be obvious soon enough. ![]()
4. The worst habit I picked up from PvE was tanking shots. In PvP if you survive the first hit, and have time to react - EVADE! Took me a bit to learn NOT to get hit, as only a few shots will take you out. There's time to learn all that as you go though, so for now just have fun with the missions.
Glad to hear you're already using droid programs. Check the FAQ and my sig for more indepth guides.

HAve to? No. The Dunelizard is a great ship - one of the best JtL ships the Freelancers get to use. Some people prefer the harder hitting offense power available in a heavier ship, though, so a temporary Kimo or Rihkxyrk is an option.
2) How progessively harder do the missions get?
The biggest changes in difficulty happen when you change Pilot Trainers. Expect a change in your Tier 3 mission, compared to the Tier 2 ones.
3) Does the AI get any smarter?
Not really, but the tactics they use make more sense when they are able to fly faster and make tighter turns. When JtL launched, most AI consisted of Jousting tactics. A change was made and they started making more turns. People have complained that both systems are too easy to defeat (though the general consensus after the change was that it was for the better).
4) Does PvE develop bad habits for PvP?
PvE and PvP certainly require different tactics, but the best thing PvE does is get you used to the system, your ship, and your gear. In PvE, the point is to dish the damage, the point in PvP is more often to survive (more than a few seconds).

Yes, they tend to have that effect. The synergy of CO4 and Shunt4 has had even more of an effect on PvE than the use of EO and WO programs.
