Thread: Mining Made Easy! Seriously!
Hehehe.. wow.. no comments.. lmao! Do me a favor, after you've tried it out (if you try this out) lemme know if it helped or not. Takes some getting used to.
I like the mining game actually. But when you need this many resources.....

Saved me soooo much time last night! LMAO!
Thats quite the shopping list I have in my above post. I have a feeling my F10-F11 keys are gonna get worn out tonight.
LOL
That or you'll break your finger(s) smashing the buttons a million times. ![]()
nice tip
thnx
i put a /follow onthe same macro, so once u are lined up behind the big chunk u can spam it and it even aims for u lol
any way nice 1 ,
ign. totuss
nice, thanks.
btw, i don't think this is macro-cheating at all. It's more like programming another droid command.

Chasing down those little chunks annoys the hell out of me.
Mining
/ui action targetSelf;
/ui action cycleTargetOutward;
tractorbeam toggel
/ship weaponGroup toggelTractor; (tractorbeam on/off)
Edited note" BTW IT WORKS F**KING WELL, NICE ONE"
AGAIN nice one i filled my 1000unit cargo hold in under 5 mins, i got the hang of it and it was just like auto mining with a little help. but im sure i can work a macro that can do 99% of it automaticly.
maybe working this command in while you mine works better cos you don't need to worry about holding down fire.

I like the idea of the follow command, I'm gonna sneak that into my /target macro. Hehe funny timing on this great set of tips. I just tonight discovered for myself the joys of Using the Tractor Beam in The Manner In Which It Was Intended. Prior to tonight I was a 3xMk III mining laser man. Thinking that throwing gigawatts of pretty red-orange laser fire into space was getting me my minerals as fast as possible. I was a blasting,/target ast-ing,boosting, leftover-leaving maniac of a miner. I thought I was being 'efficient' by sagely letting stray small chunks over 1500m away from Momma Rock just float away into the ether. Who needs to chase little guys when I can just blast off another 3 big 'ol chunks with my Mining Arsenal Of Destruction?!?!
Thankfully I clued into the error of my ways. At first I used the Tractor beam as another kind of Blaster. I'd blow up the Big chunks from the "optimum" mining laser range of 300m or so, then spend 5 minutes desperately chasing little rocks with my woefully fickle Tractor beam and curse and howl in rage at the WHHOOOSH sound as another of the little hellspawned 'roidlets flew by my windshield. I thought I'd put my TB in mothballs forever. Until I found the secret recipe. Loading my Krayt with a TB, 1 (ONE dangit!) Mining laser and my precious Level 10 RE blaster, I eventually hit upon this strategy (basically the same as Vegitaa, so all credit goes to Veg for posting the winning tactic FIRST)
That is to say:
1. Approach Momma asteroid
2. Toggle Tractor beam on, and LEAVE IT ON
3. Turn speaker volume down or OFF to maintain sanity
4. Break off 1 big chunk using Mining laser (you have WO3 loaded right?)
5. Target and /follow that big chunk until you get to within 60m or so. You should be flying in the same direction as the Big chunk by now.
6. Hit big chunk with Mining laser until it explodes (not a shot more, you want every piece to be gobbled by Mr. Tractor Beam)
7. Since your only 60m and your Tractor beam is already running there is a large chance you will Insta-Suck every small chunk with NO CHASING whatsoever.
8. If an uppity small chunk or 2 doesn't get sucked up, well...you were so close when it blew that it only takes a couple minor flight adjustments to quickly vaccuum those critters as well.
9. Return to Momma asteroid for 2nds, 3rds and a big helping of 4ths, etc until hold is full.
Spread the good word about using TB's this way. Positive results:
1. Closer to asteroid when it blows means much less chasing around
2. Less chasing around means you'recloser to Momma Asteroid for the rinse-repeat cycle. Saving Time Is Good.
3. Yield on TB is higher so not only are you chasing rocks less, your getting more of the Good Stuff to boot. Meaning Full holds quicker!
4. Using this method just plain results in a virtual 100% guarantee that you WILL get every last little chunk that 'splodes. Wich leads to the MOST IMPORANT BENEFIT:
5. LESS UNCLAIMED ROCKS CLOGGING UP THE SERVERS PRECIOUS CPU
Granted, I'm pretty certain they snuck in some code in the past 24 hours that drastically reduced the amount of debris floating around in space (anyone else get this impression?), but whatever we can all do to help control the Pet Rock population of the Galaxy just HAS to be a good thing.
Spread the gospel! ![]()
Right on to the above posters!
First off, good to hear this helped you guys out. I went and had my SW craft me a better set of mining gear, Mk3 Mining Laser, Large Starship class cargo hold (1550 to fill it), and of course player crafted tractor. I mine exactly the same way as what the above poster said.
Tractor beam on the whole time (sound muted), blast off one momma rock, follow, blast, tractor. Works really nice. IMHO way faster than messing with a Y8.
/salute
Enjoy your mining trips!
