Thread: Question on Shield Stats

Installing a new shield that is say....486 front and rear protection. I go up, and fly and fight with it, then land. When I return to 'manage' my ship....I look at the stats and they say something like:

980.6/486

980.6/486

Is this a bug? I don't understand why this first number is so much higher than the second. Can someone please explain? Thanks ahead of time!

You can't overcharge shields.

There is some kind of bug that does double or triple shield strength. My Advanced X Wing actually had 10k f/b shields the other day (2550 REd reward shield). I don't think anyone knows exactly what triggers the bug, but after 1 or 2 hits from another ship, they'll go back to normal.

I'd say the biggest concern would be learning how to reproduce it, and exploiting that in PvP. I'm sure someone, somewhere, is doing it. But generally it just seems to happen for no specific reason, and reverts back to normal fairly quickly.

There is, unfortunately, a known way to reproduce it. And no, I won't tell you how.

Often times by the way just launching will clear up display errors. I've noticed quite a few components that read funny on the ground, until I get up in space.

Ah, so that's how you survived that one time.... bah, just kidding. I'm sure there are a handful of people who not only know how, but are willing to do it intentionally to gain an edge. Bloodfin PvP for the most part seems to be played by pretty reasonable and honorable pilots such as yourself.

Personally, I don't even want to know how to reproduce it. And if I notice it happening on my ship, I pick a fight with a tier 1 or whatever else is nearby, to unbug it.

You aren't by any chance Daukilo, are you? Once again (if you are) none of my parts are uber or exploited.KSFs just happen to make great targets for prowling Interceptors.

Well, 'cept maybe my prenerf DI, but that just gets me back into combat faster.

Lol, no. Aucka and Krysemi are my two PvP pilots. I was grouped with Daukilo last night, though.

When technology exceeds the imagination, it's thought of as magic. In SWG, magic = exploit. When someone doesn't know gear can be made as well as you or I have it, they tend to assume it's magic (or, in SWG, exploit).

I'm sure 80% or more of the pilots on our server have no idea it's even possible to make or RE a gun as good as I have on my Longprobe (my third PvP ship behind my A-Wing and X-Wing). I assume you have similar equipment, since you sure as hell frag me in a single shot

I don't know Daukilo, and I don't want to get involved in whatever accusations he might have made against you, but don't take things like that personally. Just let it slide off. If your gear is legit, he's just p*ssing in the wind anyway. There are a few of us who play to win. Some feel the need to cheat, others, like you and me, pay greater attention to detail and work out ways to improve legit gear. I don't know the stats on your cannon, but I've seen L10 REd Beamrails well over 5000 max with .85+ effectiveness and less than .4 refire, and under 40k mass. Mine isn't quite that good (although it's pretty nice ), but I'm bettingboth ofstill have better than a lot of people have seen.

Whoops, waaaaay withdrawn. If you're Aucka/Krys, I like flying against you! That A-Wing of yours scoots! Dauk has annoyed a few of us Imps, just by kind of being..um...well....goof is the best way I can post on these forums. When he showed up Sunday several of us dropped who we were shooting at to shoot at him, was really funny when we debriefed afterwards.

Thanks

There are a number of you guys I like flying against. The Imp pilots on Bloodfin seem to use a diverse number of different kinds of ships. It's fun. I never know whether I'll be facing a Squint, an Interceptor, an Oppressor, an Advanced, or sometimes... gasp... an Actis.

My A-Wing was a fun project to put together, but I do like some diversity. Krysemi has the A-Wing and a Longprobe I'll fly in PvP (nuked Bic last night in the LP, we had a great laugh over that), and Aucka has the Advanced X-Wing and a B-Wing that's a miserable work in progress. I like the B-Wing a lot, but man is it hard working with a 243k mass restriction. No, seriously Oh, and there's the Nova of DOOM too... had fun chasing, I think, Maudee in an Actis with that one. The fight included several miracles. By his count, he hit us 12 times before blowing us up. My bottom gunner actually tagged him while I was maneuvering like a fighter. And somehow the shot (5500 max null-bolt) didn't instantly frag him. Was fun

The only Reb pilot I seem to PvP with frequently is Ayanami in the little Dune Lizzie, so it seems like I know more of you Imps better than the Reb pilots on the server. Seems like space pvp is about the only thing I log in for anymore, wish there was more of it on a large scale. It's a blast on those Sunday nights when there are 10-15 ships exchanging fire in Deep Space... makes it fun to lurk on the outer edge in a heavy bomber like the B-Wing and pick off stragglers.
