Thread: Missile and Countermeasures descriptions

Hey Guys,
After reading someone else's thread on missiles and countermeasures I did some looking around. There is no comprehensive description anywhere of them. At least not that I found. If there is, please point me in the right direction.
I have been flailing about with these items for months now not really knowing what the hell I was doing with them.
My questions are based on the perspective of a PVE player. I do not play PVP at this time.
I mean, I know the basics, look at the stats for effectiveness for CM and damage on missiles, but what the hell is the difference between an Image Rec missile and an IR missile in game? I know the difference by the description, but what is the functional difference between using one and the other?
Obviously Image Rec locks onto the target based on what it sees, the IR locks onto the heat bloom from the target. How does this difference play out in actual combat?
What's the diff with a concussion missile vs. a space bomb
Proton missiles vs any of the others. Damage between a level 3 proton missile and an Image Rec missile seems about the same, so what's up?
On CM, what difference does it make if you use EM emitters or IFF Confusers? Is there actually a difference?
Micro chaff vs. normal chaff, etc, etc.
I realized today how little I really know about these things and I've spent a lot of credits and time on them. I really want to know what I'm doing now.
I hate to ask stupid questions, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has them. And if I've missed something in the FAQ, I'll feel dumb but at least I'll know where to look. =)
I unloaded 5 image rec missiles and 5 proton 3s on a TIE Oppressor last night and did basically the same (very little, about 1% of shields) damage. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong?
Each type of missile listed damage at about the same amount, 5400 points or so.
Sorry about the rapid fire questions in this post, it just points out how little I really know about something I should. =)
