Thread: Trouble with the master box corvette mission

There are 2 of us in my guild who are rebel pilots on our master box mission. when we find the corvette in kessel (and this goes for both corvettes, our target and the rebel corvette) it is bucking around all over the place. it pitches/yaws around its central point up to an angle of about 45 degrees in a random direction and then to 45 degrees in another direction and so on as it flies its patrol route. This is not just because it is in hte process of making a turn. it does it almost constantly and it makes it almost impossible to make an approach to take out a system as the system is moving around too much to get a hit and the movement of the corvette exposes the top guns even if you attack from underneath. It has been doing this over several days and across server reboots.

i was wondering if this is the standard behaviour for the corvette now(i have read lots of guides on how to solo it but have seen no mention of this problem) or if it is some type of server problem. my server is Kauri.

If this is not a bug then i am looking on how to go about destroying this ship. with the way its moving is there any way to take it out other than with brute force, lots of missiles and a big squad?

It will pitch around quite a bit. My advice, load everyone up on concussion missiles. Take out the shields, secondary shields and then the engines. Hyperspace out. WHen you return, the escorts will be gone.

Then take out weapon 5. Hover at the bottom of thevette.Keep using the concussion missiles, as they fire DIRECTLY THROUGH the superstructure.

This mission, which is stupid difficult (see my other post: the Corvette: a study in absurdity) is rightly cheated through.

It's definitely bugged. Unless you have an uber ship and lots people helping, I would pass on it until another day. The problem is that guns can randomly and quickly unmask to take you out while you are concentrating on another component. Two up-and-coming pilots are going to be in a world of hurt trying to take it out.

Personally I prefer Protons, and turning the ship and running the hell away as soon asthey're launched. Even with the turning, you can take the ship, just as soon as you see it start to tip get the heck outta there until it stablizes for a second.

the mission is fairly easy once you know a good strategy, i can easily solo it with 2/3/3/3 freelance.

lure escort fighters about 2km away and kill them. then IFF take out the Turret 5 on the bottomthen the rest should be easy

There is some issue, because not all Kessel corvettes do that.

It is definately an issue, and psiko is right - not all do that.

I watched a Rebel Corvette do what you described for longer that I had previously thought possible. It went through several legs of its flight before I was forced to leave Kessel.

My theory was that, during a turn, one of the Gunboats got out of position and too close to the Vette. What I kept seeing was the Vette flail around and violently knock one of the Gunboats out of the way, and then the Gunboat would fly back into the way of the flailing Vette.

I would imagine that blowing up the Gunboats would help alleviate the problem, but I'd hate to assault a pair of Rebel Gunboats in that situation, let alone a pair of Imperial ones with more turrets and smaller blindspots.

I've noticed vettes doin that sort of thing, they usually have periods of straightening up in between from what I've seen. I always lure the fighters and kill those, then come in behind/below match speed and take out gun 5. The guns go down extremely fast so I take all those out first, then do the systems, when it's blown I take out the gunboats for faction points. I use a tie advanced with guns, no missiles, I use b-strike if it's timer is reset if not no biggie the strike package doesn't make that big of difference really.

This is a behavior I've started seeing recently. The problem with the folks that are talking about killing turret #5 is that the ship is rolling while it is bucking. You would be unmasked and taken out by the top-side guns. This isn't a case of it jinking around during a turn. It's moving around constantly doing that. My guess is that this is happening on lower volume servers where the rival NPC's are initiating an attack. I've seen the Rebel Corvette and its escorts doing the same thing. Each time, both were engaged with NPC craft.

If that is the case, you can almost always get in nice and close without it opening up on you. Then, you can open up on Turret 5 and boost.
