A long time ago in a.....

JTL that was still kinda new, there used to be rewarded an Engine. A level 6 engine, infact, with a 92 speed.

Said reward engine was later nerfed to be, ahh, what is it now? 79 speed or so? The reasoning for the nerf was it was entirely too fast for that level of part.

Why would it be to fast for this level of part?

Because it was lighter than anything that could normally achieve that speed. Hence allow more mass in the rest of the chassis, and i think another reason cited was it stood to trivialize the game.

Fast foward to today, and look at the speed records people are setting.

We have come full circle. So, ahh someone explain to me why the reward engines were nerfed again? The reasoning for it seems to have been lost.

Don't mind me, just the tired musings of a worn out player.

I hear ya man. I took too long to get my first ace so I missed out on that pre-nerf engine. I was posting for 3 days wondering why I got jipped. Only to find out later that the Dev's stealth nerf'ed it. I must have had a dozen tickets open with no answers (CSR's are good for one thing and one thing only in my almost 2 years experience... deleting open tickets with no answer or resolution.)

Now I have an engine of only slightly higher mass but EXTREMELY higher stats. No, it doesn't make sense...

92.9s and 98.9s (Privateer L8s) were nerfed because of balance. We now have even faster engines and another "dynamic" engine because of newbies.

Only recently did we actually start getting Dev attention - and gee, I wonder why. Enjoy it while you can, though - once the honeymoon period ends, we're back to having to plead for content and fixes.

Duty missions aren't content.

I find it somewhat curious myself, but now there's an interesting system where you can go with a crafted engine that's faster and heavier, or an RE'd one that's lighter and turns better and handles overloads better.

Of course, pre-nerf owners have the best of both worlds (though not quite as fast as the new craftables), but if this had been the system from the beginning, it would have created a nice balance between crafted engines and looted ones, I think. But it kind of makes you wonder, doesn't it?
