Ahhhh lol.

My copy of JTLS just arrived today (I have been on a 6 or 7 month break) and I installed updated and as the server was loading it went off line

Yesterday I boughta Light Tie deed for 15k, so I plan to use that ship as my first one.

How long does it take to master a pilot skill? to be able to do PvP in Deep Space or Kessel?

If you have the cash get a heavy TIE, once you get your first few tiers you'll be glad to have the extra mass

It can take a long time, its not grind-based, you have to do a pretty tough quest to get your master box. I've been 4444 rebel since about 2 weeks after JTL launched on live

You have to master (should, anyway) before you PvP, since only masters can use the best of the best equipment. You cant get to DS without mastering, anyway. Kessel you can handle at 4433, but there really isnt much incentive to go there right now anyway.

Pfft, I use no level 9/10 equipment on my ships
(Call me old fashioned, but I still use the real X-wing)

The Master Missions aren't all that tough, and the Corvette is one of the best SWG moments I've been in, organising a huge attack on it and seeing everyone swoop down on the gunboats like vultures is amazing.

I agree that you should definetly get your hands on a Heavy TIE, if you really want to save cash it'd probably get you all the way to Master. Although I do recommend getting your hands on the Eta Actis II "Jedi" Starfighter.
