Howdy. I am a new pilot. Working on my second teir 4 box now and I have learned about Re-Engineering. I remember reading a post somewhere about how it is better for some components to be re-engineered and some crafted.

This facinated me, so i respec'ed one of my many alts to master Shipwright. Now I can't seem to find the post. I do remember seeing that RE'ed capacitors and engines are a must but I have no idea beyond that. Any information would be helpful.

I thought I saw a post here explaining each component and whether you need RE'ed or crafted. May be there though. I'll go check it out. Thank you for the info.

Crafted capacitors are worthless, allways use a looted one, preferably an REed one. Other than that I would say crafted components are more than adequete for PvE while you gather good guns to RE with your reward one and so on. Shields also seem to be better if they have been REed. From memory the reward ones are very nice.

Use RE'd Weapons, capacitor, Shields, droid interface, and sometimes engine. for everything else get it crafted.

The good thing about JTL, is you can choose your own loadout.

There's no winning combination of RE'd/Crafted parts, just get the parts which you feel comfortable with.

Only pre-nerf loot droid interfaces are better than crafted. Unless you are using a L10 DI, crafted ones are faster and lighter.

Also, in my experience, only the reward shield is better than crafted. Loot shields better than crafted are very rare if they even exist.

IMHO Shipwrights make the fastest engines, but a RE'd engine at same tier will have comperable speed with greatly improved PYR rates.

I agree, looted capacitors are always better.

As for guns, nothing beats the overall quality on an RE'd lvl 8 weapon. A shipwright must choose between max damage intensifers or lowering energy per shot. A RE'd component can improve EVERY stat on a component, and with at 5% bonus for a Lvl 8 component it easily outstrips every other weaon, include the lvl 9-10 weapons a shipwright can craft.

It's all about the loot.

And don't forget the Level 8 reward gun has an extremely low energy/shot, if you use RE'd versions of those in your gun slots, your capacitator suddenly becomes just a shield shunt item

Don't forget Mass either.

As he says but I use crafted guns to give me the right look of weapons and colour of beam! But thats just cause im me, and havent bothered to RE any weapons yet!

It's never that cut and dried. It all has to be based on how much you fly, and how much you've looted. Once you know what a "good" stat is, then take notes about your ship loadout. Switch to your shipwright and make some test items. If you can beat what you had then use the crafted item of course. Remember this too: don't always dive immediately into the highest level part. Mass is critical, and you can get excellent results from lower level parts and save tons of mass. Higher level does not automatically mean better, in crafting or looting.

Reactors- low lvl crafted reactors are great, but that doesnt mean you shouldn't watch your loots for rare drop reactors then RE them.

Engine- well balanced now as described above. RE'd is more maneuverable, Crafted is straight line faster.

Shield- RE'ing the L8 reward is the gold standard, but in lower mass ships, or until you have the loots, crafteds are just as good.

Capacitor- lower even leveled loots are better post RE 99% of the time.

DI- craft them unless you're fitting an MP ship, or have an old school Lvl1 DI

Guns- by far the most popular RE, never as fast as a crafted speed gun, but lower mass, higher damage, and better vs effectiveness mean a lot in PvE. Basically use crafted until you have the RE'd done.

Boosters- tossup. I generally stick with RE'd L4 reward boosters on most of my ships.
