I flew behind the ship while I was leveling. It is easier to fight that way for sure. I forced myself to scroll in and fly from the cockpit and am loving it. Once you get used to it, it's just as easy as flying in 3rd person. You just have to learn how to use and rely on your instumentation. Once you get used to using the radar as your primary targeting tool, you will love flying in the ship instead of behind it.

Yeah, im thinking I'll have to get back in my JSF and learn first person shooting with a ship that handles halfway decent.

Does anyone know if changing the draw distance in the video options might be able to improve this problem by making the size of the firrespray in 3rd person view smaller?

Try a higher resolution or scrolling back further. I pilot my Nova Courier in third person and I still have a very commanding view.

Go into options and look around the zoom multiplier slider. There should be a slider called something like vertical offset. Slide that up and play about with it to get a view in front of your Firespray.

if the size of the cockpit graphics are a problem, you can also turn off the cockpit frame under options > misc > show cockpit frame.
