...What If you could program your astromech to perform commands automatically when certain events happens... Likeyour droid could use the "capacitor to Shield Shunt" when your shields reach a certain amount set by yourself? Or use the other shield reinforcement commands depending on whether the front or rear shields are being hit?.... Or maybe get it to run your escape macro the second your armor gets hit?

Pro's

  • Gives the droids more of an AI feel to them.

  • More Star-Warsy (R2 was a pretty handy droid to have as a co-pilot)

I did try to think of cons but if its only an optional thing then why not... One of the things I'm not certain on is whether this should be available to flight-computers as well as droids, I'm sure the DE's would love it if it were a droid only advantage.

It may be more Star-Warsy but it wouldn't be very X-wingy, honestly, in my opinion. Timing the use of shunts, and droid operations is something that becomes a part of pilot skill and equalizing everyone on that would make players less individual in space. Besides, I can think of many times my shields were nearly gone but I wanted to get that last shot in before shunting.

But that's just what I think.

I've done something similar on my POB.On a couple of occassions, a guildmate of mine who multi-boxes while playing has set up an AFK Ops officer for me.Set to the recycle time +1 second, he runs Cap to Shield Shunt4 for me. It definitely gets the job done, if imperfectly.

this would be a bit more star wars like, however it would unbalance the game. With the exception of the JSF, only rebel ships use droids, all others use FC's

I assume it would logically follow to have flight computers do the same. A-Wing and B-Wing pilots aren't going to like the astromech advantage either....
