This is pretty much my thought on the matter, too.

To compound it, I think there should only be about five per server, per faction, for a total of only 15 capships per server, total.

The 500 mill prestige marker ALONE should keep out the "doitformes." Anyone willing to fly a POB or MP ship for them to piggyback that much should get a cap ship as substitution for sainthood.

I believe that once the capital ship is out of the bag, everyone who wants one is going to get one. Like Jedi, you won't be able to keep them from having them. The only way to keep the capital ships rare in practice is to make them so that you will have to choose carefully when to bring it onto the field. I.E. automaticly factionally declared and always attackable. No one would dare bring out that capital ship unless they had a screen of fighters to protect gun 5.

Of course, that would start people whining that they could never use thier capital ships. That was one of the reasons I proposed that players be able to hyperspace to instances. Sure you can field that capital ship, out in the proverbial "boonies" where you won't bother anyone and no one can bother you. You will just have to get a crew together and some fighters to cover you before you hyperspace it back into more populated areas.

Of course, instanced mission areas would be a godsend for the space game. The possibilities there actually are darn near endless.

SOE, think about every non-Jedi "cancelled" signature you've seen, and remember that there will be more as you forget the communities that makes this game's heart and soul. Entertainers, Crafters, Hybrids, Non-Jedi Combats, and Smugglers. When you are closing shop on SWG, remember that you ignored the REAL community to cater to an alpha class that assured this game would never be "balanced."

they should make them overt use only. once you launch your capitol ship, you're overt.

would make people think twice about taking it out for a joy ride around the system if anyone that spots it might fly to a station, go overt, and attack.

I'm not sure that I fully agree with this. I bought the ROTW expansion, and I don't have a BARC...

Not that I really care about a BARC, I could always buy one, but it's not that important to me. It may be better phrased: there's no way aroudn the fact that when an expansion comes out, everybody who buys the game new has to be able to make use of it.

Now, I don't presonally think a move as major as capital ships would be approached in such a cavalier manner, but I am prepared for it.

Of course, I do fully agree that cap ships should be limited, either in number, or in ability to interfere with overall gameplay. Although, I am not a fan of nerfing anything, so limiting the number is probably best.

Maybe only people that have mastered all 3 squads of a faction, or even all 3 factions should be allowed to have them...

Let's not forget that these things will be multi-passenger, so though someone might have one, unless they have a full crew to man the turrets, you won't see many just joy riding around the galaxyfor their sheer speed. Sure there will probably be quite a few of them when it first comes out, people will be excited, but look at other multipassenger ships for the example here, how many YTs do you see on a regular basis, Mining Vessels, Decimators, heck aggressors even? Its too much of a hassle for Joe Average to get a crew together on a regular basis to fly the things. Now I know there are some of you out there who do nothing but fly, and guilds that love to go out together, but I know on Starsider at least when I'm in the air I'm pretty much the only player out there, let alone in a multipassenger ship. I don't think we have anything to worry about from these capital ships, the really nice ones will be for the better players I'm sure, and their popularity will quickly burnout just like everything else, once the noobs loose a few battles to a well trained squadron they'll get back to the groundpounding. Just my thoughts, keep the faith.

We should make it something simple yet hard,

Long series of quest to use it, a minimum of 6 players to man it, all of which have to had done the quest, Requirment of Master *insert faction here* pilot to fly it and x4xx to gun it, and xx4x to run the operations chair.

There we go.

It wouldn't be much of an expansion if few people were able to use it. They won't do anything to limit the number of people able to get at least something ... they can't.

It might be annoying, but there's no way around the fact that, when an expansion comes out, everybody who buys the expansion has to be able to make use of it. We'll just have to hope things don't get TOO out of control, the quest series might not be a bad idea.
