Thread: Frustration and You

I've found that when I solo a mission, with a gunboat, its typically coming for ME. Its very hard to get in its blind spot and stay there and not get hit, while its gunning for me. I'm sure others can do it, I cannot. I've failed many times trying. The strategy I use is make passes coming straight at it (yes you are gonna get hit, but thats what cap to shield shunt is loaded for). You have to wait for cap to shield to be ready before you go in on another pass. It works for me, maybe its not the best way, but to each his own. If the ship is flying in some sort of path, then the sucker is dead! But typically in missions, they are very hard to stay in their blind spots.

I didn't equip a flight computer until after I mastered... Wasn't even that I didn't know about them; kept saying to myself "I should get some droid commands" and just never did. Ducking and weaving waiting for eweapons to recharge, sigh!

I was a noob but no one has more appreciation for droid commands than me now!

Yes, it can be extremely frustrating when you are first learning to Fly. And learning is key. In a great many respects JTL is nothing at all like ground. For one thing, Everything here is ultimately soloable...

This Forum is chock full of useful, well-written and PRACTICLE articles and guides. The stickies are excellent starts.

Equipment Makes a difference, a big difference; Good, Reverse Engineered Engines, RE'd WEapons, a Good Shield, and a decent Capacitor and, DROID COMMANDS are key.

Knowing how to Fly is PARAMONT. Dive into that cloud of oncoming fighters, and be able to swing around to Their Sixes completely unscathed. Disable, Disable, Disable. It takes time, and it takes practice. It also takes some basic knowledge of just what YOU, as a Pilot, are able to do. People aren't kidding when they say it's possible to solo the vet. Know what you can ask of your SHIP. A great many people think they and their vessel are uber, because their weapon has, what they feel, is a High Damage, and outrageous Numbers vs either Shield OR armor. There are a great many factors that go into what makes a good component, and, Droid Commands are a large part of that.

Early on it's easy to fall into the trap of believing you REALLY have a handle on things, when, in fact, You Don't. At tier 3 are you using the BEST level 6-7 RE'd weps you can get? Do they do .65 % (or better) damage to BOTH (Both is key, not just one or the other) Shields and Armor?

Does your engine have high PYR stats as well as a decent Base Speed? A Reverse Engineered (not Player Crafted) lvl 6 Engine (tier III) can hit PYRs in the low 70's. While your speed might only be 82, or so, you GAIN manueverability, which is what you will NEED to be able to Dodge incoming fire, and TURN on your opponent and blast them out of space.

The Y-Wing... is just whacked. yet, You CAN muddle through. I Soloed my way through Tier II and III in my Y-Wings, with substandard equipment and relentless persistance and... enormous frustration. The thing is a Boat. a Heavy Z-95 HeadHunter (90K Mass, costing about 250K on Kauri) is a MUCH better Vessel to work through these levels, but, it CAN be done, even with crap for parts and insufficient skills, just, expect Clumps of Hair to be sprouting between clenched, shaking fists as you try over and over again on some of the more tedious missions.

Missions can last awhile. I fly for the joy of being in space. I love it. If you are here SOLELY for the Badge and just want this ... Over. Then Group and get out. You don't need to learn how to fly, you don't need to know what ship to use, or how to tweak it, or, even what Commands to use, you just need to have a true Ace take pity on you, or, failing that, 20 Noobs to help you run your missions.

If, however, you love this as much as the rest of us, then, let it Hurt. Fly, Fly, Fly. and READ the stickies!

EXACT-A-MUNDO!

I have solo'd myself all the way to the corvette missions five times (most times quite easily.) Why? Because I have a MSW alt (that is also a master pilot) and I farm loot until my loot box is full just about every day. What does this get me? The best reverse engineered equipment possible.

I like to think I'm a good pilot but I would never have been able to pull off soloing entire piloting trees without good equipment and flight programs.

Thank you HewerofWood for spelling it out for us!

Woohoo finally beat it, though I died again while trying to dock without first destroying the weapons

Man that was a pain and to empasize my point AFTER that part I had to go fight off a few more waves of fighters, Ah well one more mission to tier 4, I think it's time to find some better equipment, I can't destroy that lamda shuttle before it despawns now Man I've learned alot in these last 3 missions, I'm falling in love with the feeling of rolling up right an a fighters rear and blasting him away...
