The droid (first trainer)sent me to my next trainer at the Dantooine Rebel Outpost. I did the mission to be able to land there, but now I'm being told I can't get into where the NPCs are in the outpost because I'm not part of the faction. But I looked on my character sheet and I'm a Rebel, just on leave. Do I need to be a combatant to get in? Thanks.

yes, you have to be combatant to get inside the base

You have to be combatant, not just on leave. Find any rebel recruiter (there's one in the rebel outpost on Rori, nice and easy) and tell them you're ready to get back to work.

Imperial NPCs will agro on you while combatant, players cannot hurt you.

The third level after combatant is special forces, for pvp.

You'll only need to be combatant for that trainer - it's what, Tier 3, right? So four missions and you're home free, as long as you land there you're fine.

I did it as an Imp sneaking around to steal an ARC - every time I ran into NPCs I had to run away so I wouldn't lose Imperial faction. Kind of embarassing as a level 80 to burstrun from a level 20 stormtrooper.

Tier2 and 3 trainers are both there in the base, but avoiding Imperial Entanglements is easy.

There are cities that are always Rebel controlled (Moenia), or the Rebel Base on Rori. It's safe and easy to talk to a recruiter there, launch, go to Dantooine, land at the base, talk to your trainer, talk to one of the officers inside base, go back to On Leave, then launch to do your mission. If you plan on doing a couple missions at a whack, just save the last two steps until you're about to launch for your last mission of the day. That way, the timer on your combatant status will run out in space and you will be totally safe no matter where you land.

I prefer to hop from Rori to Dant (obviously not the Imp Outpost, that would be bad) THEN launch into space. Half the time you launch in comm range of the station, and there's no waiting out the hyper jump.
