I'm an Ace Rebel pilot and I was wondering if the B-Wing is worth getting. I already have an A-wing, X-wing, and a Nova. The A- and X are ok fighters, but I'm getting frustrated with the mass issues. Is it worth the money to get a B-wing? Can you dogfight with it or is it only for killing big ships? I see a lot of Ace pilots still using the A-wing and I wonder if the B-Wing is crap or what?

Bwing is good at what it does. What it does is not PvP as it stand ingame currently.

Can you be more specific? WHat do you mean that it is good at what it does? How is it at PvE?

He means it gets a bit sluggish under quick and pressure-type situations of PvP. It's alittle heavy, which is a plus, but it gets sluggish when compared to A-Wings, or even X-Wings.
But one thing for sure, we had a group of 10 going to get a Cvette and 3 B-Wings with us, and they dealed the most damage, and not one of them was shot down.

Every Rebel ship is good for its own seperate role.
The A-Wing is highlymanuverable and extremely fast with a good engine.
The Z-95 is much like the A-Wing, manuverable and fast, but much less supported mass. You can skimp on armor in lieu of shields, and even use it up to Tier 3.
The Y-Wing is a decent fighter with room for good shields and armor, with added longevity by use of the turret to keep fighters at bay, since it doesn't manuver tightly.
The Y-Wing LongProbe is a great bomber and damage dealer, with more mass than the standard Y-Wing, the turret slaved forward, and a second ordinace slot.
The X-Wing is your multi-role craft. It can intercept, bomb, dogfight, it does it all. With a good amount of mass, it can easily support two cannons and missile launcher, or three cannons, but the supported mass keeps you from using three level seven cannons and a level seven launcher. Its sorta like an either/or spot. If you can make everything fit in there, power to you.
The B-Wing is *THE* heavy bomber/attack craft, and flies like it. The first time you pilot one, you'll feel like you're flying a lead bathtub on rollerskates. Its manuverability and speed are lacking, but you have the mass to make up for that through firepower and shields/armor. Best utilized with a moderate speed high PYR engine. While interceptors such as the A-Wing could drop a B-Wing, the transverse it also true. It simply depends on pilot skill, equipment, and the situation.

I hahve to agree with the above points the B wing is fantatic at what it does i.e. bringing masses of heavy firepower to bear on a target. If you take time and fly it gently with a high turn speed engine she can take on fighters without too much trouble and gunboats cease to become a real nightmare especially with 2 mark II space bomb launchers on board.
Just dont buy one and expect it to accelerate and turn like an A wing this seems to be why people get upset with the B wing but you dont get 240K mass for free.

A little sluggish compared to the A wing? You gotta be kidding me, I reckon I can spin my A wing 15 times for each turn this boat makes.
Don't get me wrong it has its place, but to really realise it we need to introduce ramming damage on static hard to miss targets
That being said, this thing can deliver a serious blow to a large target, it is a bomber, it requires fighter escorts and a LOT of attention to its loadout. It also requires a lot of forethought on where you are going to put it next, that takes experience.
IMHO this thing needs another 25k mass added to it, given its limited movement

I like it alot
. I still fly the x-wing mostly when I play solo, but when it comes to grouping, I like to bring the b-wing. I have a 93 speed engine in it with a great booster, a killer lvl8 shield with 2500, 17 regen, and all the guns and Proton 4 missiles of course
.
If Isee a tier5 gunboat, I throw the heavy shields to the front, pop a shunt 4 and do an approach at about 400 speed with guns and missiles blazing starting at wep0. Once my front shield gets low, I max throttle and kick in the booster to get away and recharge my shields, but typically by than, the gunboat has 1, maybe 2 guns on it left.
A different kind of fun

JTLS is going to take a dive if people expect that just because the B-wing is at the top of the Alliance Pilot skills list, it should be the best ship out there, the most versatile, the fastest, the most maneuverable, the heaviest hitting, the toughest. This isn't Freelancer, and it isn't Wing Commander: Privateer, where more expensive equals better than less expensive. This is Star Wars, and SW lore places the B-wing as a heavy-hitting, slower, less maneuverable starfighter. You can't expect it to do everything, just because it's at the Master Box. It's a different dynamic than the ground game. All ships are equal, balanced (unlike the ground game, unfortunately).
You shouldn't expect your B-wing to handle like an A-wing. You shouldn't expect your A-wing to pack as much of a punch as your X-wing. You shouldn't expect your X-wing to take as much damage as your Y-wing. This game has to be based on George Lucas' concept of starship strengths and weaknesses, and anything else is just going to foible it all, like all the whining did to the ground game.
I talk to Imperial pilots who complain that their TIE fighter only has 50k mass and they die whenever they take their TIE up against me and my X-wing (100k mass.) I feel for them when they complain that they just can't fit all the stuff they want, but then I remember that the TIE fighter is based off of the Star Wars TIE fighter, and I ask them, "Why do you think they don't have shields in the movies?" TIE/ln fighters are light, fast-attack fighters. They're designed to maximize speed and firepower over durability.
If you want to fly for the Empire, you should know what you're getting yourself into beforehand. People who try to cram Shields, Armor, Weapons, Ordnance, and Engines, are going to end up weaker in all of those areas. When you're dealing with limited mass, you have to pick and choose your strengths. A true Star Wars fan is going to outfit his TIE/ln fighter as they are outfitted in the movies and books: light armor, no shields, and thebiggest engine, capacitor, and guns you can fit in.
Anyway, I digress. I really hope that people don't all whine that the B-wing dies in PvP dogfights because of its lack of maneuverability. The B-wing was never designed to be a space superiority (dogfighting) fighter. It was designed as a heavy assault fighter. That means that it was designed to tackle larger capital ships. It has shields, armor and weapons to achieve that task, but lacks the engines to go rough-and-tumble with an X-wing or A-wing. That's what we've come to expect from and hope for in the B-wing. I sincerely hope we don't lose that.
Let's just hope that the Devs eventually (in another expansion) take multiplayer starships to the next level and give us a chance to command and own our own Capital ships. Then you'll see B- and Y-wings emerge more prominently in PvP. In the meantime, use your B-wing for what it's intended (heavy assault), or learn to handle it in PvP dogfights. When you can, let me know, and I'll give you cudos!

The B-wing has a specific role it plays, Bomber. And it excells at that. 2 Mk 2 Space bombs, 4 Advanced blasters is a lot of fire power. With 240K mass you can also put huge shields and armor into it. So it can also take a lot of abuse.
If you fly fly with a group (for vette or SD runs) the B-wing can be a real blast. But if you are looking for a solo style (or small size PvP) then the B-wing is not a great ship to consider. I like the change from time to time on my rebel pilot, to get into the B-wing, concentrate on missle lock and targeting, trying to take out 2 systems on one pass (hit aMkII sbthen blasters on the second target, then use my huge booster to get-the-heck out of there fast). But I agree with many of the other posters, I find myself in an X-wing mostly and the A-wing sometimes, B-wing rarely.
So I would say unless you have lots of money (or a shipwright alt) I would not recomend a B-wing to ya. The price of the ship/weapons/reactor is enough, but at an HUGE resource cost everytime you fire off a MkII Space bomb, it can be very expensive to run.

The B-Wing is good at what it does.
It's a heavy fighter/bomber. It flies (as someone else in a much greater article about B-Wings said
like a "cast iron bathtub on a skateboard", that being said - it can also lay down a lot of fire and put out a ton of damage. I'd never fly one in PvP (unless I wanted a huge challenge, I guess
), but it's a good PvE ship if that's your style.
Again, I'd do a search (or just sift through the threads) and find the artile, I think it's entitled simply "The B-Wing", it has a lot of great tips and tricks on the ship.
