Thread: Desire input about missile weps...

Okay, I've flown TIE's a long time. I started playing X-wing, then TIE Fighter, then XvT, BoP, I even threw in some Rogue Squadron for kicks. The Space game is pretty good. Tough opponents, good lewt, long grind. I love it. My only gripe is this...missile lock at 700 meters.

In all the other space games offered up by the Star Wars machine missiles locked onto fighters and small craft at 2.5 kilometers and capital ships at 6 kilometers. Having my missiles lock at 700 meters is rather pointless. What good is a missile up the tailpipe when my target is already well inside primary weapons range? Is this bothering anyone else?

My numbers might be a little off, so I apologize. I welcome both discussion and flamage. Any input is appreciated.

Screw missiles until they change the audio for them.

Battlefront had the best non-annoying lock-on sound ever in any game for missiles.

As for the merits of your idea, it'd simply make PvPing even less challenging if you could lock on from outside guns range, and it would make MP ships even less desirable.

As for PvP, it's what countermeasures are for. As it stands right now, having missiles is pointless as by the time you're locked on you're already lighting up your target with primary weps. Not even in RL do you have to close into guns range for a missile lock.

Regarding MP ships, in XvT you could shoot down incoming missiles (Ahhh, the old "spacebar, turn and shoot"). Perhaps even this could be implemented with a change in the way missiles work. Any other thoughts?

I agree with you. Greater range on missile lock. Give us a reason to use those countermeasure slots anyway. And I always enjoyed shooting missiles out of the sky. Made me feel like a real crack-shot. I do dislike the idea of having half a dozen opponents slag me with a slew of proton torpedos though. That's just never fun or challenging for anyone. But again, countermeasure.

Also, if you recall from X-wing, TIE Fighter, XvT, XWA, etc., using missiles once you were in a dogfight was pretty difficult, unless your target was just flying a straight line. In a combat situation, you'd probably only get one chance to lock and fire a missile (in JTL you have to lock before you can fire, which I don't like -- I enjoyed dumb-firing), two if you were fast. I really love JTL; it's brought back the spice in the game for me. It's the bread'n'butter of any Star Wars experience for me. But to be honest, I'd like JTL a lot more if it more closely resembled XvT or XWA style of play. I loved those games.
