Hi all

Got myself a krayt and pretty happy with it except for its looks. was wondering how a KSE's yaw pitch etc compared to a krayt? IE is it more maneuverable?

cheers

I haven't flown a Firespray, but the reports I've seen on handling and in combat are that the Krayt is actually better to fly.

I'd still like to get my hands on a Firespray to find out for myself, though.

The biggest complaint I've read about RSE's is the poor laser convergence. One positive is it has another ordinance slot.

Haven't flown the Krayt yet, still finishing my Freelance master, but my alt has a Firespray and I like it just because its cool but...

1. Weapon convergence is a little difficult (this is because the turrents are right below the cockpit for one and all the way at the bottom of the ship for the other, so they fire in sort of a square pattern.
2. It can be a little difficult to maneuver, I'd say its similar to a Y-Wing, but has better number for acceleration and deceleration. The problem is especially bad when not using an engine overload program, as this will increase rate of turn and roll.
3. The chassis is very large, and when zoomed out (not using cockpit view) the back end of the ship will actually block view of the target altogeter, you have to go on only the targetting reticule and cant gauge for speed and angle of the ship you're firing at (this can be PARTIALLY solved by going in to options and increasing your field of view to about half, it pinches the screen a bit but allows you to see whats going on around the ship at least).

Theres also a listing in the FAQ thats stickied at the top that shows all the acceleration, pitch, roll and yaw values for each individual chassis, I'll edit in a clicky if I find it! =)

Edit: This thread has all the ship stats in it

"One positive is it has another ordinance slot"

That's a big, fat, negative for me. Ordinance is practically worthless to me.

In the time it takes to get a lock and land a hit, a third blaster could have dealt out MORE damage on it's own, not counting the other 2.

I haven't flown the Krayt myself, but my Imperial Character has the Firespray, and I love it. The guns took some getting used to, but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

I do have a Level 10 RE'ed Engine in it though, with a p 82 yaw 78 roll 80 and a top speed of 99.8, so I don't know how much that play a part in how it handles.

One trick that makes ordinance more useful is holding down the second mouse button. It will fire off instantly on a lock even if the lock is only for a split second. I agree with you though, I'm a big fan of lots and lots of weapon mounts, but it's a plus for some who use them against capital ships.

Well, really, about all they're worth against capital ships is a shot at turret 5 on the corvette if the corvette group isn't aggroed to you yet.

Other than in that case, what I said applies to them as well.

  • The KSE handling is much better P/Y/R than a Krayt and is much tighter to fly

  • Targeting due to laser convergence on a KSE takes some getting used to over a Krayt which will remind you more of a Kimogila on targeting

  • The overall top speed of a KSE is actually slower than a Krayt, but the handling of the KSE is much better. The Krayt, however does not handle badly

  • Bombing runs the KSE with 2 ord slots is superior, and against more agile fighter types (read tier 5 droid fighters), the KSE can stick on their tail a lot easier

  • Overall firepower, the Krayt will outgun a KSE any day if it is equipped right, especially if you manage to get all 4 gun slots filled with high end guns and a capable person to use the turret efficiently

Extremely accurate comparison of the two ships. I really liked the handling on a Firespray, personally, but there's no doubt the firepower of a Krayt is superior.. and the Firespray's fat rear does get in the way of your view in third-person. Who knows though, that may be a benefit; after a while with a Firespray, you just sort of know when you're going to hit and when you're going to miss. Makes you feel a little more connected to your ship.

Personally, I own both a Krayt and a Firespray. Both are solid ships in their own rights, but it's not truly fair to either ship to compare it to the other.

The Krayt is a firepower ship. The sheer volume of fire a Krayt can bring on a target is disgustingly huge. It's not bad in a dogfight either, however, that's an area I feel the Firespray excels at.

Even though the Firespray has a slight issue of lack of laser convergance, much like the B-wing, the spaced out lasers are, in my opinion, a tremendous advantage. In the Krayt, you have a relatively narrow field of fire. Either you hit with all lasers or you miss. Not so with the Firespray. It's spaced out lasers mean while you may miss with 1 set, you might hit with the second, and every hit counts. The Firespray tends to handle slightly better than the Krayt, however, the rear profile of it makes the Firespray a tempting target indeed.
