There are many ships available on all sides that have virtually no benefits in the current pvp setup. Each side has a ship that is best for dogfighting and straying from that has no advantage to the player. When content is added perhaps that will change but here is an idea to make people more apt to fly lower lever ships such as the Tie/In or X-wing into pvp.
For each Kill you have in pvp you get X victory points.
Example
A-Wing vs Tie Advanced - Even Match/ 4 Point awarded to the winner
A-wing Vs Tie Interceptor - Uneven match, 2 points if awing wins/ 8 pts if Interceptor wins.
A-wing vs Tie In - Uneven Match, 1 pt if awing wins/ 16 pts if Tie/In wins.
A-wing vs Tie Fighter - Uneven match, 1 pt awing wins/32 pts if Tie Fighter wins.
The numbers are supposed to represent the difficulty of winning the engagment. If you kill a ship 1 tier below you get 50% of the pvp reward. If you kill a ship 1 Tier above you, you get 100% more pvp reward. 2 Tiers above is 200%, 2 tiers below is 25%, etc. (1 will be the lowest reward)
For the time being Master (Tier 5) ships will be considered Tier 3 as they do not have an advantage in dogfighting at this time and multiplayer ships will be considered Tier 0.
So now that you have Pvp reward points what do we do with them? You spend them, much the same way faction players can buy factional equipment/pets/armor etc. Pilots will be able to buy specialized loot off the pilot trainers. Reward Loot! The same loot you can get from doing the missions during the initial training phase will be able to be purchased using pvp points. Loot can be 100 pts per level. So a lvl 5 reactor is 500 pts. Lvl 10 is 1000. As you can see it's going to take alot of combat to get anything and people using ships that are harder to be successful in will be rewarded. Once this system is in place decay should be restored so that players are not simply buying this loot to sell on the market, they will need to be replacing their own loot as well.

I like the 5 star rating, but no criticism? So it's a good idea?

uhh, im more worried about making it more like this...
than making the system know there are things that are unbalanced

Ya, i gotta say, this system would be problematic. People would just get groups together with a couple of good ships, and then one starter one like the Z95 or TIE-Fighter which would be the designated killer who would get huge points.
They should just balance things out instead.

Well people will find a way to cheat the system no matter what you do but since all players on a given server have to pvp in one area (deep space) it will be far less likely to occur given that any player who stumbles in on this would get free kills as well.
As for making all ships an even fight...Well we don't have ships that are even. Each is different and pvp rewards should reflect that killing another player using an a-wing is not as difficult as killing someone using a Z-95 or Y-wing.
And as for making them all even...so you just want all ships to have the same mass/speed/weapons...?

How about a simpler system regarding the ship types?
fighter--fighter
fighter--bomber
etc.......
But of course this would be after we get something done to the Big3, if we can.....

sounds gravy too me
and maybe we can actually get some rewards for points from our friendly master pilot trainer, like nice equipment and such (or Ace Pilot Pants lol)

ok a tie/in with the right parts can trounce an aw-ing it has some of the best manueverability in the game 7.0 7.0 5.2 as opposed to 4.4 4.4 2.6 so your calculations are alittle off.

My hope was to encourage people to use the other ships. (Cause I don't see anyone doing it...)A ship with 25k less mass has a disadvantage (Tie/In vs Awing) in that it can't mount as strong or as many components. Sure if the Tie/In pilot has some extremely rare loot it might be competitve but how is that a problem? It still only has 40k in mass and will has to sacrifice something. (Shields/armor/engine spd) And if decay were turned on a Tie/In pilot using rare loot to compete with an Awing should get rewarded as the Awing doesn't need to use rare loot to compete.
I'm very interested to see the components you'd mount on an Tie/In that would make it better or equal to an awing.
If I can make a comparison, a P51 Mustang is a great plane but it cannot out manuever a Japanese Zero, yet the zero is no match for it as the P51 just out runs it leaving the zero at the mercy of the P51 due to Speed. An Awing will likely be able to outrun a Tie/In with ease and with that the Awing has control of the engagement, so I'd say the Awing still has an advantage as I think the Awing's in general will have a much higher top speed than the tie/in.

I find the rush of PvP enough of a reward
I also find that, more often than not, these types of rewards do the exact opposite of what you are trying to do. They encourage gankers, and 1337 gear pilots to be asses to improve thier ranking, and chase away potential newcomers to PvP leaving the playing field somewhat stagnant.
Please note this is not a accusation or finger pointing, just an observation.

I think I'd prefer to see them put an 'undoubtable' advantage to each ship chasis type - maybe a ship specific component for example.
Wouldn't it be cool if you could get a 5k dmg cert9 .25 refire Uber-Plasma Gun with only 3k mass, but it only fit in a Z-95 for example?
