Thread: Can Ship Chassis' Be Fixed?
And decay is insane now. I just wish they'd remove it entirely, it's not worth it, especially with the reward ships. Or, have a way that shipwrights can create kits that will "tac on" or "patch up" the decayed chassis, to up it's condition, possibly to the max of what it was when it was created. Obviously, these parts would require a large amount of resources and possibly asteroid resources, so it wouldn't be cheap.
But the devs seem to love decay. Decay and grinding. So it'll never happen.

There is a minor bug with repairing your ship from crated general repair kits where your equipment can sometimes be restored to original specs (or better for armor). I just had this happen to me (though the repair kits ran out before the chassis was totally repaired), it restored all my damaged equipment to original armor/HP specs and since one of my armor was already restored on the previous repair it added about 300 points to it. It was those blasted gunships!! Everytime (except the first) I've been killed in space it's been at the hands of a gunship (or Corvette, which is just a bigger gunship!!). But I was thoroughly pleased to have the original health of my items restored after that last gunship!
The reverse side of this bug is that the repair kits end up having their effective usefulness reduced (IE- a crate of 25 with 8K repair only ends up repairing about 50K of damage total becuase after use it sets the total for each kit in the crate much lower, for example what starts out as8K repair kits become 6K kits, then 3K kits, then 500 point kits, then 3 point kits - and this affects all the kits in the crate though it only uses each kit till it's used up). This bug has hit me twice (once while training Tier 4 on Dantooine - another gunship incident) and this time I mention above.
The decay is there to create demand for shipwright services, I doubt that it's going to go away or that shipwrights would spend the time to actually make the items to keep decay down to the minimum.
BTW- the other thing I've heard (but not tried) is that when you go into DS and come back out that all damage is repaired without decay. So if you can make it to a DS space station that's one way to avoid decay.

Exactly. If decay didn't exist, we'd never need to buy stuff from SW's. Hence, no one would want to keep skillpoints tied up in a usless profession, and we've not got many good shipwrights as it is.
You can only enter Deepspace as an ace, and only if you spend 30kprestige points to enter.
