Just got the skill to use the Dunelizard.

Saved some cash to buy one.

Had no idea that the "blueprint chasis" would be just that, a chasis.

So since I'm cash poor would it be wise to take the components from my freebie ride and stick them in the Dunelizard until I can upgrade them? Or would this be like putting a Yugo engine in a Mack Truck?

head back up and grab some loot. sell it and buy some parts. You might even get some useable stuff as well

That's what I did until I looted/could buy better ones. It worked OK, but you'll get better performance from the crafted stuff.

If your first ship is still usuable, I would stick to it until you can load out your new one. You can test out loading your old components into your new ship, but it may not work as well as you want it to.

Best bet is to just keep grinding for more money and parts to sell.

The change over went well. Having 2 weapons was a huge upgrade. Previously with my Scyk I had trouble getting the shields down on the NPC Dunelizards, with the double weapons on my new Dunelizard it was a breeze.

I was unhappy with my engine performance and with recharge on my weapons.

The engine part is easy, find one with better yaw, pitch, etc. It was a real bad feeling tohave the tables turned on me. The Scyk had great turning control and after reading the Pilot FAQ I became pretty good at looping around to get behind the enemy. With the Dunelizard I suddenly knew how my old enemies felt as I could not get them off my tail.

The weapon recharge issue I'm not as clear about. Would I need a better reactor or is it tied to the weapons themselves?

The complexity of the system does give it great depth but wow is there a learning curve! Add to that the variation in crafted items and it becomes very hard to figure out which/what to put into a ship. Having a blast with it though, for me it is a great way to forget about the rumblings on the ground and just blow Hutts up.

Answered my own question by reading the Friday Feature linked in the Pilot FAQ.

My weapons are not recharging fast enough because of my capacitor.

I've hooked up 2 weapons to a 1 weapon capacitor and it can't recharge fast enough.

Add capacitor to the list of new things to get...

you can try using a freelance program called weapons capacitor overcharge. the 4th level will cause decay, but the 3rd level does not and works very nice

I upgraded as much as I could to Mark II stuff and it made a HUGE difference. Also found that it was easier for a noob like me to buy the Mark II items, less confusion with the names and all, just looked for good Mark II stuff. Not sure if it was the smartest, but was easiest for me to find what I considered to be good Tier 3 equipment.

Spanky new engine, great weapons, super recharge, and a reactor that can handle all my new bits.

Just got the skill for droids so I'll try that out next.

I have the droid interface just no droid yet. As a freelancer do I buy an astro-mech droid or do I buy a chip/computer?

You'll want to buy a flight computer.
