Hi all,

I bought jtl as a serial number and have no manual so have some basic questions.

1. Aiming
Is green circle in front of ships a direction indicator or is it the target?

2. Timing
Ships get geometric shapes around them when targetted and the system makes beeping tones. When is the best time to fire?

3. Speed
I have a kamigola and find that slowing to 500m makes the kill easy. Is this sound tactics or simply lack of skill?

4. Capacitor
I think that a burst from all three guns when the capacitor is at 100% does mor edamage than when its at 10%. Is this just an optical illusion or true?

1) That's the lead indicator. You should be aiming at it, in a general sense (it's not 100% accurate, due to various conditions, but you should be aiming in it's general direction)

2) Sounds like a missle lock, I assume you have a missle laucher and missles in it. Fire once you have a lock... you cannot fire them until then, so you can test and see just what tone/indicator is a lock.

3) There's 2 main points on your throttle that you'll find can make you turn better than at full or 0. 33% throttle and 66%. I have them set as macros. /throttle 0.33 and /throttle 0.66

This is actually different for each ship. It is part of an equation that takes a chassis modifier, and the engine modifiers into account. For example, a TIE ln turns best arouns .97 throttle, a Tie Advanced turns best around .73 throttle (I'm imp). These were the numbers I worked out with the formula, it is posted here on these boards. An engine with a higher pyr will slightly raise these numbers, lower will slightly lower them. Also, they are throttle settings, not speed settings, so a faster engine will also raise them.

Dunno, the settings, as I stated, are the ones I've used since the beginning... I've played both Privateer and Rebel a fair bit, and I've never had either of the settings be less effective, even when playing with manual throttle control.

Speed of your engine shouldn't affect this, PRY probably could...

But in general, 1/3 and 2/3 make good starting points for throttle settings. It may not be optimal, but they work.

Sorry if I was confusing, we are saying the same thing here, set the throttle not the speed. 2/3 throttle on a 50 speed engine would be 330 on a 100 speed engine it owuld be 660. The original poster said he found 500 worked good, I just wanted him to know that it is throttle related not indicated speed.

So I use W to accelerate and S to slow down. When I want to stay on somethings tail, I'm 2/3 up from S to W.

If I understand correctly, you are saying that I will have the same manouver power in a craft that is capable of 1000 if I adjust it to 2/3 throttle as I do in a craft that is only capable of 400. Which is great!

The real question here is:
Is the 2/3 programmed in as a key breakpoint that is best macro-ed and hotkeyed or is it just a gradual trade of speed for control like when you drive a car?

I have it as a macro, F1 for 1/3 and F2 For 2/3.

It's not an instant change, it'll accelerate at the normal rate (based on the engine) up to that point. It's nice to have instant settings avaliable, but then, I'm a macro lover.
