Thread: Anyone try mining like this?

So I've been mining up a storm with my fighter, 1550 units at a time, ugh. So of course while I'm doing the boring mining I'm thinking of better ways.
Has anyone tried taking the Y8, filling it with mark 3 or y8 mining lasers in all weapons, then going up to an asteroid and have the pilot shoot the hell out of the asteroid, while the turret people shoot everything they can? I would think you'd rip through the asteroid pretty quickly, and of course you'd have a lot of debris that you wouldn't collect... but I would think the 2 turrets would be constantly busy with the rocks. Given the cargo hold of the Y8, even if this was a bit slower than normal mining, it would seem better than making 20 trips with a fighter. Also, I'd probably want to do this in Tatooine space on iron asteroids so that we'd only have Tier 1 asteroid bandits, which of course wouldn't be able to hurt us.
Anyways if anyone's tried this please let me know the results. If not, I'll probably give it a try tonight and see how it goes.

Sure, if you want to be rude and lag your sector of space, go for it. Besides I think the new limits on chunks would negate any benefits.

instead of having 3 people in the y-8, take your fighters instead. combined cargo hold of 4650, and you will be collecting ore at least 3 times as fast.
