Hi all,

I am a privateer for the Smugglers Alliance (2332), and in desperate need of tips. While working on my tier 3 missions, I feel I am in constant need of a wingman, since I manage to get overwhelmed in enemies. I recently went from a Kihraxz (sp?) back to my Dunelizard, just so I can usebetter armor and shields, andwhile this does help, it only delays the certain death that awaits me.

I know there are a lot of people that could easily solo all the missions, and my question is: how?? I've read all the tips and guides here, and implemented the advices in my flying, but I still get battered down as soon as I face more than 5 enemies. I use the disable/destroy trick, which helps in crowd controlling, but is simply not sufficient. Droid(cap to shield shunt)and especiallyPilot(IFF transponder scrambler)commands are used frequently as well, to hold them off and buy myself a little time, but somehowI never manage to keep the numbers low enough so that I can actually do something.

Could you friendly pilots out there help this new pilot to solo missions? I simply don't wantto alwaysrely on others for succes...

I switched to a Kimo as soon as I could (3 guns is nice), and apart from one of them (3332 I think it was) I managed to solo them all. Which mission in particular are you stuck on?

I (Han)solo'ed (pardon the pun) Smuggler's Alliance mission's up to 3333 in a Dune Lizard and a Kimo. The dune can turn on a dime and with a well crafted, low massweapon/shield/reactor you can use CAP OL 3 on looted capacitors with very nice results. I ended up switching to a Kimo to do the Dath missions. Those tier 4's hit hard. Now that you have the Heavy Syck option (95000 mass, thats more mass than my Dune and only 10K less than my Kimo) solo'ing most of the Freelance missions should be a breeze.

Yeah, make sure you're using Droid Commands, and try using disable. Often I try to outright destroy the first ship going head to head, then as we turn I'll follow and disable the second ship, then switch to the third, kill it and go back to the disabled one. This seemed to work better than destroying one while two shoot you, then destroy one while another shoots you.

Same template as me 2332. I'm working for Jabba. I'm on what seems an impossible mission. You have to go drop some packages off to some Imperials. You get there and the ship turns up and so does 3 bandits. Once they are down to say 1, another 3 turn up, you get through about 2 of them and another 3 turn up. Rinse and repeat. Its impossible. I tried rushing in and docking with the Imperial ship, managed to do this to 3 of the ships I was to dock with. But by the time you do it to the 3rd about 6 ships are pounding you while your trying to dock. Then you manage to undock and are told you have to escort a ship. W T F! And I think at which point ANOTHER 3 ships turn up. Thats about 9 ships pounding you. How the hell are you suppose to do that mission.

All evening and night I've been trying to do it. Managed to buddy up with someone who was also trying to do it. And went along for his mission. I found that I could hold them off him only slightly, as I'd pound them, they'd ignore me and just go for him.

I'm in a dunelizard, with a laser that does over 1k damage if I remember right and a shield that has front and back 1888.

Eventually the bloke got over whelmed to and blew up. It just seems impossible unless you do it in a group.

ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH

Also it means I can't fill anymore boxes until I finish that mission.

The faster you move, the less ships that spawn. If the mission holder doesn't stop or slow down then his wingman can drop in behind the chasing ships and pick them off easily. Or, if the mission holder is fast enough, a judicious IFF scramble will get you enough time to get where you're going and safe. If you want to ignore the ships, make sure you have cap to shield shunt. also a Rebel pilot can be invaluable with Jumpstart.

There's a few steps to it.

  • Droid Interface
  • Droid or Flight Computer
  • Command Programs

Step 1: Install a droid interface into your ship. The Speed is the important part, you want it as low speed as you can find. The speed = number of seconds x level of command for it to be available again.

Step 2: Get a Droid or Flight Computer. If you get the deed, read it for use which will put it in your Datapad.

Step 3: Choose the Command Programs you want. Some commands you learn as a pilot, those will show up on your skills page in the Droid Interface Basics skill line as "Droid Program: Whatever". You can also get "Ready Chip: Command Name" from Droid Engineers. These allow you to use higher level than you know commands as long as your flight PC can hold it.

Step 4: From your Datapad use "Program Droid" from the radial menu of your Droid or Flight Computer. This will bring up a list of commands you know and Ready Chips you have available on the left. On the right is what is, or will be, installed to your computer. Choose the ones you want and move them to the Right side. (Select, then arrorw button in the middle). A status bar on the right side will fill up as you choose programs.

Step 5: From the Manage window of your Ship at a starpot load the flight computer or droid you programmed. Once in space, the programs you loaded will be hotbar icons in the Astromech section of your command browser. They will last till you land or die usually.

I suggest Cap -> Shield stunt, Weapon Capicator Overload, Weapon Overload. Engine overload is nice too. Reactor overload might be needed too if you find things are disabled after you use the programs (I left 2000 reactor on my Kimogila in order to not have to use Reactor overload).

Using these programs WILL damage your items. As I understand it, lvl 3 commands only do 9 points of damage so if you use it, then repair since it's less than 10 you don't get any decay, so use all the commands then repair and you're good to go for a session.

Cap -> Shield is the exception, you can use that much more often than the others.

Using Droid Programs can make your ship 2-3x as powerful as it is normally. I'm in a Tier 2 ship and easily take out Tier 5 NPCs with it because of these programs and nice RE equipment.

On my Kimogila I use Cap-Shield 3, Weapon Over 4, Cap over 4 and Engine over 3 in a v4 flight computer.

Good luck!

3simple tips.

1. In a dogfight where you are heavily outnumbered - keep moving!

2. In a mission where enemies spawn to stop you getting to a certain waypoint - ignore them and go full throttle to your wp.

3. Try not to aggro additional enemies whilst in a mission.

1. If you are surrounded by, say 8 enemies - do not fixate on destroying one. This will allow the other enemies to come up on your tail and unload everything they have into your rear shield (times 4, 6, 8 or however many they are!). If you just keep turning and unloading 1 or 2 shots into every enemy you get in your xhairs you will survive a lot longer as they find it harder to draw a bead on you!

2. Noticed this problem a few times on fellow rebs missions. They would stop to fight all the repeating spawns and it took hours. However when they went straight and level to their waypoint their enemies went straight and level at their tail. Therefore as I was trailing my wingmate (and consequently his enemies) I had 4 or so TIEs lined up neatly in my sights flying straight and level. My 3 adv. quickshot blasters made quick work of them every time.

3. This isnt to bad if the enemies are low level. However when escorting wingmates through tier 3 (4?) Crimson Phoenis missions in endor they would trip over TIEs a tier higher than they were. When you ahve to fight 5-6 enemies your tier and trip over 3 TIE aggs, 3 opps, and 6 ints a tier higher than you at the same time your mission becmomes somewhat truncated lol. Always trry to have a good level of situational awareness and remember to configure your radar to an appropriate range for your particular mission/sector!

Yes, thats EXACTLY the mission i'm stuck on glad to hear I'm not alone in this.

I do use IFF scrambles a lot, as soon as I can use them again, unless in the beginning of missions where there are only a handful. But, this could be a very good tip, and I will try this when I log on again, to IFF scramble as soon as new enemies spawn on my flightpath (making sure they are in range of course :smileytongue, this could work.

These are some good tips, thanks,a friend of mine gavealmost the exact ones to me last nightand I tried to follow the advice for 1 and 2 (and 3 of course, but I always do that).

1. Showed me that maybe my evasive maneuvers aren't exactly.... evasive, as I just got pounded down faster, and had a very hard time hitting them. Although this could be due to my mouse sensitivity, which is perhaps a little to high and too skitterish, but do you have any tips on evasive manuevers?

2. Tried this too, but they kept following me and gathering more and more enemies with them, so justwhen I undocked with my target, my shields went down.... and you know the rest. This did show me however that my engine and shields aren't really the best, I will post the stats when I load the game again.

Lets see how this lay-out works Pleasekeep in mindthat I'm new to the forums and what I'm about to do may very well turn out to be an incredibly ugly lay-out lol

Double post, 'cos I can't find an edit button, sorry

Anyway, here are the stats on my equipment:

  • Reactor: [ mass 10118.3 // reactor gen. rate 12263.0 ]

  • Engine: [ mass 13765.5 // engine top speed 79.0 // Y/P/R 63.2 ]

  • Shield: [ mass 16821.4 // hitpoints: 980.6 (F/B) // recharge rate 8.07 ] <---- I chose this shield primarily because of the recharge rate

  • F. Armor: [ mass 1125.1 // hitpoints 210.9 // armor 210.9]<----I never EVER lose my front shield for some reason, so this isfor mass control

  • R. Armor: [ mass 10505.4 // hitpoints 1055.5 // armor 694.5 ]

  • Capacitor: [ mass 11976 // energy 707.8 // recharge 37.7 ]

  • Booster: [ mass 3149.6 // energy 1980.0 // recharge 49.5 // energy cons. 198.0 // acc 36.3 // top spd 25

  • Weapon: [ mass 12571 // dmg 1464.6 - 2008.5 // vs shield 0.620 vs armor 0.610 // nrg/shot 32.1 // refire 0.420

And then my flight computer/dorid interface.... NO ordnance, NO countermeasures, as you can see with my front armor, my mass is "on the edge"

Mass: 85344 /85547

Energy: 9444 / 12263

Chassis: 1072

Now I have some thoughts on how I can use my mass better AND make my ship better in solo PvE;

  • First of all, a lighter reactor (I'm not using all of the energy, and there is some excess mass there)

  • Front armor... no need to explain here

  • Shield... not enough hitpoints, but I really love the recharge rate, any ideas on this?

  • A 2nd weapon... I currently only have 1 weapon because I simply don't have the mass to use it

  • Ordnance maybe, countermeasures for sure... I'm havign trouble with missiles and this could help a litte

Any tips or advice?

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the effort you put into me

a MkII crafted reactor should easily cover your energy use, a MkI might, but I'm not sure off hand (for less than 3k mass in the case of the MkII).

The capacitor, start hunting around for some cert 4's either in space or on the bazaar, they can be fairly lightweight and have a similar spec to yours (I've had a 44 regen, 2k mass, 900 capitance before now, but mostly I seem to average around 3-4k mass)

The shield, if it's a loot drop, hunt down more shields until you have the same number of shields of the same RE level as the RE Level - eg, if it's a reverse engineer level: 6 shield, you'll need 6 RE:6 shields.
If you keep hunting until you have a selection to chose from, collar a shipwright and ask them to reverse engineer it for you, they might ask for a donation, but most of the ones I've seen (myself included) will do it for free in the hopes that they get a firespray disc.

The armor, you could probably get away with some crafted MkIII and half the mass of the rear armor and roughly the same hitpoints.

By that point, you should have enough space to mount a second weapon

As for the mission, I think by that point I was outrunning the things that spwned to stop me (easier in the dune than the Kimo I think), docking and using cap to shield shunt to keep my hide in one piece. Worked quite well since most NPC's don't seem to slow down to attack you if you're stationary, they just make a single pass and take a few minutes to turn around again.

I only just started using ordnance, and only for gunboats and upwards. Haven't use countermeasures yet, and I'm only the master corvette away from Ace

For 1 - buy a joystick - you can get some really cheap ones that are more than adequate at the job (that means 100 times better than a mouse), and, just keep turning. Every ship has a particular throttle setting that will give it the best turning capability, try to find it. Then use your radar and rear view to check out the enemies and turn into them forcing them to scatter targetting one until they regroup on you and go after it.

2. Get a wingman or 2 who can follow you and keep your tail clear. Then when you get to the waypoint quickly kill them or for more time to dock just target their shields/reactor and disable them.
