Thread: NPC crewman for ACE Pilots

I was thinking about how Artisons can hire merchants to stay in their house and sell the stuff they craft. Then
I thought why can't Ace Pilots hire their own crew to man
their multiplayer ships, to man the guns, repair ship systems, etc?

What does everyone think?

Now...where's the fun in THAT?

Personally I think it's a horrible idea that completely takes away the fun and point of a multi-PLAYER ship.

I wouldn't mind "maybe" seeing possible repair droids...but make them so that you still need a flight enginer onboard to direct them (They would allow you to safely send the droid to repair plasma conduits) But I would drag my heals to the last about NPC gunners.

I have no problem getting people to crew my Decimator. I regularly have people asking me when we can go up again, and have a select group I consider my trained crew, including flight engineers... We go up, we have fun it's a blast because of the people involved.

I agree that being a flight engineer with no idea about what's going on is, well, boring (And when the flight engineer's job gets exciting we're all in deep poodoo)... And I've been told "Tell me when we're taking damage so I won't be standing next to a panel when it explodes!" So I definately agree that flight engineers need more content...and maybe a station of their own.

As far as the loot chip scenario goes, the captain has control of it all, and I feel that they should have the right to divie it up as they see fit. After all it's their ship that's taking the pounding...and cheap captains get cheap crews...I share the wealth...maybe not equally, but definately equitably and not just with the credit chits.

I think i will have to agree with Oriana on this now that I think about it...as long as there are always people willing to go up with you. Definatly a station for a flight
eng to coordinate ship repairs during battle.

I wouldn't have any specific objection to repair droids, per se. Not so long as they still required the actual direction from someone onboard to repair xxx. But droids/AI manning the turrets I'd find completely wrong.

JTL is supposed to be skills based. Having an AI control the turrets is removing a portion of the skill from the system. If a person wants to fly solo against things, there are plenty of single pilot ships to choose from which. An option that doesn'tremoveany skill from the system.

Or droids. I'll love to be able to use my YT-1300 more often without having to beg people for hours to come as gunners. As much as MPS foment role playing and are real fun to fly, their usability is very limited by the lack of trained crewmen at any given moment. SOE really needs to wrap their collective heads around this problem to make possible to have even bigger ships on the game. It should be a priority to give a master pilot the ability to automate parts of the ship operation when no one is around. Of course an actual player will be always more fun and capable than the automatic system.

At least some level of automation would be nice. To fully man a mps now takes what....very minimum of 4 players and probably more really?

I really think if every room on all mps's that have repair points had at least a small portal window, people would be a lot more eager to be a crewman/repairman/doctor on these things. Running around 2 or 3 grey rooms, decorated or not, fixing things with no view of space at all or what's going on outside just seems to lack much luster.

Loot chips defnintely need to be automatically split between all group members for each kill. I am assuming currently the captain gets the chips, as that was my experience taking a gunner last night in my new kryat.

I like the Idea of Faction Pet type things. Use the Prestige point we get to Get them. BUT I WOULD PREFER THEY FIX THE PLASMA BUGS FIRST!

Which is exactly why there shouldn't be any AI control of the turrets.

Every pilot affiliation has a perfectly serviceable single seater (or in the Freelancer's case, a 2 seater that functions admirably well as a single seater). The entire purpose of the MP ships is to be crewed by...erm, well... Multiple Players.

I figured this out last night. The reason the Aggressor turret is so deadly isn't because it hardly ever misses. Any high level NPC ship will do that to ya. The difference is that that turret fires at about twice the speed of any other NPC ship. Thats double that damage you'd normally be taking from a ship, and thats what is really bad about them.
