I'm stuck doing the first tier 4 box mission, the one with the crystal runner. I dont know of this one can be solo'd or not but I've been trying to do so to no avail. My question is this which ship and components plus maybe droid programs should i be using for these tier 4 missions. I love the bomber for its mass and weapons loadouts plus i was fortunate to loot one of the best caps in the game with a 57 regen rate and 1200 energy so i can fire pretty much non stop. I think Ive been relying on it too much. The bomber is not a dogfighter even though I'm trying to mod it into one with engines and such.
So any advice in regards to ships, loadouts, etcit would be much appreciated.

Did mine in a TIE Advanced solo. Outfitted with a pair of 2400's RE'd. Speed was 71.2 from an RE'd level3 engine. The 3's usually have poor manuever modifiers but its more common to find them with speed. I got lucky and picked through enough to get the mods into the upper 60's. Mass is only 2k
Light armor but heavy shields as shields can be boosted and recharged while armor can't nor is it that much of a defense. Try and get a droid interface with a speed under 20. Definitely try and have all of your gear RE'd.
Droid commands: Reactor overload 3, weapons overload 3, engine overload 3, and capacitor overload 3. Also get captoshieldshunt 3 (its a livesaver).
Reactor and capacitor overloads will definitely let you keep firing for almost forever. I run a 900 mass capacitor with only a 30.1 recharge rate and while it still drains it will still last for a long while. Just learn to let up off of the trigger from time to time and learn to be more accurate when trying to "walk" shots along the recticle. With engine overload my speedjumps into the 90's (with boost its into the 1100's)and manueverability takes a boost.
I have an easy time staying behind teir 4 and 5 A-wings with this set up and Nova Carriers or YT's are fairly easy. Once you've taken out the fighter escort pull away from the ship and loop back towards it. Target one of its guns and set the recticle dead center on the ship. Start firing at about 600m and pull out at around 400. You'll wear down the shield's quickly and it will get a few shots off at you. If your shields take a pounding hit your shieldshunt hotkey to get a quick boost. Dont forget to spin and use boosters to keep from taking a hit in the rear. The shields are the only hard part as the armor flakes off like dried paint. The guns dont last very long either and I've been able to take both out in a single pass. Be sure to have one of your joystick buttons set to cycle through your target's components. It makes it alot easier than having to find the right key in the middle of combat.
If all else fails...bring a friend or two.
There are plenty of methods to do this mission and other teir 4 "disable" missions but this is just one of them.

I sent the lowest level bomber strike on the crystal runner and left to do some laundry at a safe distance. When I came back, the crystal runner had killed them all and it's armor was quite low and the shields were at about 20%. It just took a few passes from me after that. If you don't have a lot of dirty clothes, I'd say get a friend or two if you can't do it alone. It'd be more fun, at the least.

I doubt that's true or we'd never have gotten the first Ace. I imagine it couldn't hurt though.

I haven't had any help with my tier 4 missions at all. You don't need an ace, just a good joystick and some lvl 3 driod programs. I use Reactor, Weapon and Weapon Cap three overload. Also grab the sheild shunt and use whenever you get low. My armour rarely gets hits now.

With ur help Brainplay and the help of the best Master shipwright on Valcyn i completed the mission solo first time. With 64k mass on the advanced i had very little to work with so i went to see Hoshi outside of theed (at -3906 4831) and she hooked me up with low mass mark 4 blasters and low mass high regen shields. These shields rock my friends. I was able to disable the crystal runner in 3 passes without a touch to my armor and the shields regenerated before the hutts showed up. Do yourselves a favor and go see this girl she knows her stuff and can make it to your specifications on the spot. Shipwrights are a dime a dozen but the real good ones are hard to find.
thanks again Brainplay, you know ur stuff ill be your wingman anytime, and Hoshi ill be happy to cook and clean for you or just mop your floors your choice, but keep up the good work.
