Thread: Anyone else fly a ship well below what they can fly?

I'm 3/3/3/3 and I still fly a Dunelizard. I love it.

I tried to fly an interceptor for as long as I could. In the end it just wasn't worth it because the advanced has the same speed and YPR modifiers, more mass, and an extra cannon slot. I do, however, still fly my bomber.

I enjoyed flying my Advanced even though I've been an Ace for nearly half a year. But now flying one is akin to driving a dump truck - once they get the droid interfaces working, everyone and their brother is going to be flying one of the new loot ships.

Consequences of this:

1. No more space PvP since you won't be able to get a replacement without paying someone to do the quest.

2. Anyone NOT flying one of these will be, for lack of a better word, f*cked in PvP (not that the lag caused by hundreds of targetting boxes and giant asteroids isn't helping).

With a good paint job the Dunelizard is one of the best looking ships in the game I think.

As PvP gotten that bad in space? I've not been around any PvP since ROTW.

Pre-CURB, everything was just fine.

Now the asteroids are increasing lag big time (especially in zones that were busy BEFORE the changeover) because it's just another huge body the game has to keep track of (each one up close is about 3/4 the size of a Vette - what the hell were they thinking). This has made the Drunken Bee Syndrome even worse and made PvP just not a smart thing to do overall. The targetting boxes aren't helping, either - they're just more bits of data that need to be processed and displayed - and SWG's engine isn't good at processing hundreds of pieces of data simultaneously.

Deep Space is unplayable because the ISD is always blasting the hell out of static spawns, bringing the FPS down to a crawl even when you've got your back to it.

And these 600/600/300 YPR (2x the Int/Adv/A-Wing/DL) Accel-equipped loot ships make pretty much every other ship a piece of crap in comparison.

With my Imperial Master I still fly a TIE Bomber (it's just got style, and erm, very big guns), and my neutral master pilot has a dunelizard set up exclusively for mining. It just plain rocks, and has 2 gun mounts so as a mining ship it just wins hands down over the new high-mass ships as I can have a tractor and a mark III mining laser. With a "petite" mark IV engine my dunelizard still clocks 1200 speed anyway... not bad for a mining ship, and so fast it can easily let me get behind those pesky pirates

Works on the Jedi Starfighter, does not work on the Royal Guard Interceptor (which is anyway hardly the way to go when looking at the other options, the *craftable* heavy TIE is better than it), as far as I know the Royal Guard Interceptor is the only ship bugged in this department among the new ships.

What's this "space pvp"? Ah you mean the random encounter once in half a year that I had in deepspace on Eclipse?

Although you might find it hard to believe, Kope - I'm 46 kills to five deaths on Eclipse since early November, all gun kills, roughly half were mutual dogfight kills instead of bloodsucker engagements (where you spot, line up your nose with the target, press escape to clear the targeting bracket, approach, and then only retarget in the last few seconds before firing to avoid the prey hearing the 'engagement' music).

On Starsider we had a lot of space battles. Our JTL community was very active and probably still is. The new ships imbalance the entire space game though and at least I am giving serious thoughts of abandoning space PvP till SOE fixes the new ships. Not sure if that will ever happen. SOE literally killed space PvP for me.

Right now you get your best ship at Novice Pilot. Don't bother using another ship unless it is the Jedi Starfighter which is the peak of imbalance. It is smaller than an A-wing but does not have its maneuverability penally compared to the Tie Interceptor and Tie Advanced but has twice their maneuverability. And 2 gunmounts and almost as much mass as a (non-heavy) X-Wing. More than all other interceptor type ships pre-ROTW. And of course it is only available to imperials... yet the heavy starter ships arent any better.

Also forget about higher Tier ships being better. That wasn't the case before and probably shouldn't be the case either. When going up in the tree you get new, different ships. Only some new ships replace old ships which is good so you used to have a wide area of ships you could use.

I probably only play at the wrong hours then, I have seen ONCE a rebel or freelancer flying for the rebellion in deepspace (N'Varra in her Krayt Gunship), I however usually see multiple imperials heh.
