Thread: Killing someone elses Duty Mission

For missions, I always use the radar to track my targets anyway ... that leads to another sort of trouble in natural spawns, when you think you're done but are still under attack.
Yeah...I hate when the natural spawns leech on to take advantage of the situation. I usually keep track of what my target ships are, and what natural spawns happen to be in the area. If they decide to join the fray they get their engines shot out by me, and I can finish the mission and come back to smite them later (if they don't self destruct).
Well I don't know what happened, but that B-Wing was blowing them up pretty good. The X-Wing only got a couple before I just took off. Was too mad to do anything else. They weren't static spawns unless they spawned after I was at the mission. But if that were the case I would have had alot more Black Sun to kill in the last wave of that waypoint. Maybe I bugged myself worse than I thought flip-flopping between Imp and Reb to get a JSF... I dunno...
But yeah I've had instances where I've gotten that buzzing sound myself. When I do Squadron missions I usually clear out about a 4k space around the waypoint if possible. Having adds jump you isn't a good thing in an already tough fight.
Well I was in my Opressor the other day, so it couldn't have been me! ![]()
But I've done something similar a few times. Not stolen someones duty missions, but.
I have found people here and there fighting blacksuns and taken a couple pot shots at them. Generaly I send a tell first "You doing a duty?" and generaly I get no response. Just to see if they were in fact doing a duty mission, or if they had found a static spawn.
1) Usually I get that buzz telling me they are mission targets and I go back to what I was doing.
2) When I can actually hit them I assume A) It's a static spawn and not a mission spawn B) I pop a waypoint and leave them be then come back later when there's no one there.
This also works to take the fight away from fps drop inducing nebula and asteroid fields.
Not a perfect solution though.
Loot is generated at the moment of destruction, so if he indeed got a BS helmet it is more then likely you wouldn't have gotten it if you had destroyed that ship. More likely he was, imo wrongly, annoyed by your tells and wanted to leave with a stinging reply.

This happened to me when i did my correllian space mission. at the very end of the mission where the npc ships spawn someone was at a dead stop camping the ships as they came in from hyperspace. The ships he was shooting at were cargo ships that needed to be inspected and. I asked him to stop so I could finish my quest and he sais " F off I was here first" Come to find out later that he was a dancer.
This was a natural spawn that is used as part of your Storyline mission, not a Spawn created as part of a Duty specifically for you and you alone. That means it's open season, and sometimes people are just jerks.
Hmm, either it was some static ships thrown into your spawn, or its a pretty nasty bug. I've never had anyone damage my duty mission targets, though they've tried, and I've never been able to shoot others myself. Causes problems if you see someone getting killed but you can't help because they are on a mission and you can't hurt their targets.
Really, you shouldn't be that worried about the helmet thing. The chances he got a helmet are slim, more than likely he was just trying to be more off a jack off to you. The fact that he told you he was leaving in a minute makes it even more unlikely that he got a helmet, unless he is a psychic and somehow forsaw that he was going to get a helmet.
