That in the space mineing friday feature they say the Y-8 has extra gun mounts. Could this mean that it has 4-6 different gun positions?
Also an off topic question. Where in the movies were tie fighers called tie fighers?

You know, I was wondering that same thing. Although I'm not sure where you got the 4-6 gun positions from....for all we know, additional just means "More than basic forward-firing guns", but man, 4-6 firing turrets would turn it into something of an gunboat almost, so I kinda doubt it.
Now, if we could just get our own skiprays, gunboats, assualt shuttles......now that would REALLY be something. Can't wait to start mining either!
Oh, and come to think of it, I'm having a hard time remember just where in the movies that said "TIE fighters", but I SWEAR I remember hearing it...hmm, maybe it's time to bust out the dvd's

Garva has this to say about it.
I wouldn't be expecting the Y-8 to be a replacement for the YT/Nova/Deci in a combat role. Remember that you will be using the Y-8 to get the most out of your mining operation and that the Mining Laser to break apart rock and the Tractor Beam you'll want to use (to increase yield) will both have to take up a weapon slot.
Pilot: Mining Laser
Turret 1: Mining Laser
Turret 2: Tractor Beam
or maybe
Pilot: Minig Laser
Turret 1: Tractor Beam
Turret 2: Tractor Beam
for more efficiency. My last idea would be
Pilot: Minig Laser
Turret 1: Tractor Beam
Turret 2: RE'd Blaster
For more protection.
And maybe I'm missing something and am totally off. We'll see.

Okaaaaaay then....well, that certainly cleared that up!
Thanks for the great link and info! And good God, that ship is huge!
Length - 110.3m
Height - 159.6m
Fixed Mining Laser
Two Turret Mounts
Booster Mount
And just fyi, that is just about corvette-sized:
Marauder Corvette: 195 m length
Corellian Corvette: 150 m length
.....Hmmm, now if we could just get tese in game

I believe the first reference to 'TIE fighters' was in ROTJ during the Battle of Endor. I think Lando was the one that referred to them by that name. My copies aren't handy, so I can't verify 100%.

No idea about the Y8, but as far as the ties question, I believe Han says something about 'Ties closing' when they're escaping the Death Star in A New Hope. I could be wrong tho - its been awhile.

Nah, Han never mentions TIEs in ANH. I don't think TIEs are mentioned by name at all in that movie.
Lando does make at least one reference to TIEs at the Battle of Endor: "Split up and head back to the surface. See if you can get a few of those TIE fighters to follow you."
