For those who don't remember it, Cpt. Rikkh sends you off to Lok to intercept a transport and get their orders for some reason or another.
I just flew the mission, went to Lok, flew to the waypoint only to find it deserted. So I sat there for about ten minutes, watching a Corsair Z95 and a Nym Gunboat go at it about three clicks away. Nothing ever showed up, and my mission info was never updated, so I went back to Corellia and, of course, failed the mission.
So now I'm left to wonder: is this one of those "sit and wait for the spawn" type missions, or did I need to take out a couple "leftover" ships to get it to spawn or what?

It's been a long time since I touched that mission, but is it the Nym's Cannon Ship? It should say in your Quest Journal some deatils about what you're supposed to do. The 'intercept' part should mean disabling and docking with the ship, if you can identify which ship it is.

I don't think it's Nym's Cannon. Just a transport--that I'm not even sure belongs to Nym--with some orders on it that I'm supposed to capture. Problem is... I can't find the transport. The waypoint [was] empty, and nothing seemed to want to spawn.

Then check your Quest Journal, see what it says, and see if you can follow those directions. If you can't then tell us what your Quest Journal and Datapad entries say to that we know what it is you're trying to get done.

a few missions have a waypoint that gives the approximate spot of the ship you need to disable and dock with. I usually find 3 or more ships with the general discription. I just hit all of them that are around the area till i find the right one and kill off any that not correct.Possibly you have to kill off the fake ones to get the one you need to spawn.
Oh, and if you kill the ship your suppose to dock with, if the mission didn't fail, just wait for a new one to spawn.

Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough then... I don't think I've got "Target Next NPC Ship" mapped properly, but I never remember to check when I'm in "safe" space
As for the quest journal: All it says is go there (Lok), and get the orders from the ship. The mission objectives aren't the problem here... my inability to find the stinkin' ship is.

FYI: A guildie of mine ran into this same problem about three months ago. He tried the mission several times and was still experiencing the same problem you're having. He eventually gave up on Cor Sec and switched over to SA. I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but if it's bugged, it's been that way for months.

Normally there should be nym ships in the vicinity. distance could vary from the initial waypoint.
Disable, search, when you find nothing destroy next ship.
I think the nym gunboat you saw was you're target, if my memory doesn't mistake me.
