Hi there - Freelance 4/3/3/3 here.
I just spent about an hour searching through all the components on the bazaar and I noticed as for my engine, I couldn't find anything that even came close:
Mass - 13765
Reactor Energy Drain - 2100.2
Top Speed - 92.2
And for my capacitor:
Mass - 11431
Reactor Energy Drain - 1193.9
Cap Energy - 1007.7
Regen - 36.6
Or is it that I just hopelessly do not understand how these items work?
I'm a bit slow on learning what's "best" for components.

Sounds like you have a pre-nerf engine. Keep that thing safe, and be sure that when you go to RE it, you find something with a nice armor rating. Those things are very useful.

They're reward items, nobody sells those on bazaar/vendor. If they do, they're stupid enough tosell it to the chassis dealer.

Try to find nice PYR engines to reverse engineer it with, too. You can't get em anymore, so you're going to want to put together the best one your patience allows.
As for the capacitor, it's okay, but you can do better. Problem is, shipwrights can't craft capacitors that come anywhere near loot, meaning there aren't many good ones out there. Keep your eye out for high recharge, high energy level 2s--they'll probably be able to handle your capacitor needs while freeing up a lot of mass. And definitely look into REing, it'll improve your components tremendously.
