Well, that's the 5th fail onthe Tier 3 Inquisitor mission. I've been trying to do the entire squadron with just a basic 19k mass TIE Fighter, but I'm starting to have doubts now.
A couple of times, I've been able to disable the command ship (Tier 4 gunboat), but for one reason or another, I died.
Suggestions? Or should I just suck it up and upgrade my ship?
PS: I hate turrets

Upgrades always help. You can shoot gunboats from 550 meters and they won't be able to return fire. Of course, that strategy depends on the fact that the gunboat flies straight.

I have made a career lately of killing gunboats.
Maintain range at 530-550m. If it maneuvers and it starts shooting (which it will only do if you are within the 530m mark) pull away until you are outside of that range and move in again. Be smart, if it pulls you inside the range just get out. You can come back. I target the #2 turret first (rear turret) because once that is gone you can close from behind and below safely if you want more effect from your shots. BEHIND AND BELOW - anything other than that inside 530m and you are guaranteed a warm welcome. =)
My priorities for targeting are gun #2 (rear gun), then the engine. Once the engine is gone it's only a matter of time. It can't get away or maneuver and you have a huge hole in their fire zones that you can sit in safely and just blast the crap out of it.
Oh, don't waste credits on missiles for this. You can do this without them, they only cost credits and the launcher adds mass that you can use for other things. They pack a substantial wallop, but I've done this on over 20 tier 3 and tier 4 gunboats and I've never used missiles.
Fighter escort is a different story. Getting the bejeezus kicked out of you by the gunboat while trying to dogfight is simply a trainwreck. Try to stay away from the gunboat if you are dogfighting, you don't need the headache. If you target the gunboat from an axis away from the fighters (that can take a long fly-around) you can sometimes engage the gunboat without having the fighters engage. Otherwise, if there is no other way, and you have time.... draw the fighters away from the gunboat take them out then move in on the gunboat. This doesn't always work.
The mix of a gunboat and fighters is a tough one, especially if you are going to have a tough fight with the fighters. I'm tier 4, and if I'm going for a tier 3 gunboat with fighter escort. I'll ignore the fighters until I disable the gunboat (I have shield shunt and good armor on my X-Wing that allows that), then kill the fighters and come back to finish off the gunboat.
Hope this helps some. The other simple option is get some help. Get some fighter cover to deal with the other fighters so you can kill the gunboat.
When you get really frustrated, just remember that killing gunboats is the best training for killing larger ships later on. You will HAVE to know what you are doing when it comes time for the Corvette mission for Master.
Best of luck

This is a Rebel GB aggro on u, I was able to solo it in a tie interceptor, and barely got out alive, I knew it was coming, because I was stuck on thesame mission with my alt in chilastra, so I was able to do it by calling in a bomber strike to keep gb busy till all the fighters were gone, If you dont have bomber strike, i recommend Having a few friends to help, any friend will do, exept rebels.
And if you think thats tough wait for the 4443 mission. I recomend you keep those friends handy.
forgot to say thaton thatrebelgb , you need to target it engines, so you can keep him from following you, after thats just go under it and blast him, he cant touch you if your under it.

This is undoubtedly the hardest Inquisition mission. Are you using the droid commands weapon, reactor, capcitor and engine overload 2 or 3? Are you using cap to shield shunt..do you have a booster?
all these things are crucial. If you can, upgrade to an Interceptor, 50k mass will help a lot, plus they are faster than a slutty sorority girl. Manuever like mad, evade the GB's turret fire by pulling corkscrew manuevers. Since this GB has fighter escort, it is tough to engage the GB directly, or to dogfight the fighters since the GB will keep sneaking up on you and pummel you to paste.
I used this strategy to solo it
target GB engines and charge it head on. when within 600m open fire and hit your boost.
Since it is a rebel GB and has no belly turrets, when you are within 75m pull down hard to go beneath her and use your cap to shield shunt if necessary.
Fly out so the GB is at 1500m+, then turn around a charge again, repeat until the engine is gone.
This works in an Interceptor well, because of the speed/maneuverability of the craft. You take very little fire from the GB's escort and only get hit on your forward shields a couple times by the GB on each pass. With strong enough shields your armor should feel nothing. Just watch your booster, you dont want it running out at a bad moment.

Thanks for the tips guys.
This is my third ace that I'm working on, but one can never get enough practice on these things. I'm sure that I'd be just fine doing it in the TIE L/N, since I have a shield generator that would fit nicely in it.
I'll keep trying it a few more times and see what I can do. Maybe I can try drawing the fighters from the command ship before the command ship itself aggros me. The main problem I have with this right now is that each time it aggros me, it will mercilessly follow me until I become space dust!
Another option would be to stop trying to challenge myself so hard, and either upgradeor group with some other people. Try for the TIE fighter solo challenege some other day
Thanks again.
