Show of hands. how many people have experienced the bug where for some reason the enemy ships start gettting all jittery and jump around, spin, and become almost completely invulnerable? This happens so much that I'm almost fed up with this. I'm sick of chasing bugged ships for 20 minutes until they finally stop and then after get thru destroying a few and then gettin a msg that I took to long and failed the mission. I have talked to people in game about this and they have experienced it too.

It's not a bug. The problem is a connection issue with lag.

Nah its not. Ive seen this bug too.

You know when you see a tie retreating from a run on a corvette? Its jinking and whirling all over the place to avoid being hit.

Well basically this sometimes happens all the time. Even when just running from you.

I normally notice it after a server reset. All the Ties are almost impossible to hit because their AI is telling them to act as if they are running from a corvette.

What I do when this happens is kill the ISD. This resets deep space, and all the newly spawned fighters have the normal, non jinking, AI.

Hope this helps. Because I agree with you, they are almost impossible to hit when they are like this.

I've seen this once. It was when I had packet loss of 95% and 4k ping. Never seen it otherwise.

Well Ive seen it plenty of times after a server reset. Almost every time Ive been out straight after one in fact.

And I had perfect con.

Its not the same as lag induced "hard to hitness". When its lag your shots seem to go through the ties. But when the server reset bug happens you still hit them if you land a shot. Its just they are jinking up and down and changing direction every 2 seconds.

All in all, it's really irritating. I'm on 512 cable so lag shouldn't be a problem. I've streamed web tv, downloaded stuff and played football on my ps2 over the internet while my roomate played counterstrike and not had any lag. I do play alot arund server reset, thats just after i get off work. I dunno. they really need to fix it. worst bug I've encountered in the game. it can totally ruin the experience.

It's entirely possible we're talking about 2 different issues. I'm not going to bother making a stand either way because I inevitably get told I don't know what I'm talking about.

I could be related to server "internal" lag and not be related to your connection speed.I have noticed the same thing a few times myself, but normally in high-lag periods when there are tons of ships out there. Does not mean its not related to more then 1 area.

  • How manyfighters are in deep space when this happens?

  • How many capitol ships?

I could be a server AI issue and not client related (just guessing) so I am looking for a bit more info....

i have had this issue several times as well .. the 'drunken mosquito' effect or 'bouncing'

i have experienced this on diffrent servers and has been worse recently.

i have been upgraded to a 2mb connection a couple months ago and find everything else is fine,

my ping runs at 30 to 60 onall the online games i play(including swg).

i find i load in pretty quickly compared to others (shuttleing/travelling in the ground game).

i live within a mile of the local telephone exchange

i think i have a pretty damn good connection !!!

this bug/lag seemslike a synchronisation problem of the x , y , z co-ords between server and client

iwas chaseing a b-wing and its jumping about like madand even when it is flying reletavly straight and i would normally be able to hit it , i cant , then my speed 'hicups' everything kinda resets and get in sync and i can shoot at my normal lead point and boom its dead.

i noticed that if i was real gentle on my manouvers the 'bouncing' effect was less than if i pulled really hard turns.

so i was chaseing a b-wing and its jumping about like mad , i calm down to really smooth my nice slow turn and it calms down too , i aim at my normal lead point and shoot my perfectly aimed volly of death..

.. not 1 hit

so i drift back my line of fire until i see the hits and actually ended up aimingright at the chassis of the b-wing and boom its dead.

i target the next b-wing (only thing i can hit when experiencing this bug/lag .. forget awings rofl).

same as before i come in nice and gentle on a nice approach trying to minimise the 'bouncing'.

shoot at my normal lead point .. still doesnt hit, so i start to drift my line of fire back waiting for the b-wing to come right into my cross hairs

i can see the first few hits starting to damage the shields

and then the b-wing seemed to jump backwards and re sychronise and i was now aiming and hitting it from my normal lead point (distance of approx 2.5 centimeters on my screen)

and boom its dead.

i target an x-wing same as before, in gentle , line it up , fireand drift back untill i see the hits..

watch for the x-wing to 'bounce' ,compensate aim, and boom its dead.

so u can fly thro it ,but itreally is annoying.

i dont know whether it is lag client side or lagserver sideor a bug,,

but i log out in frustration and try something else and my ping on that game is as low as i ever see it , all seems fine as usual, yet i can experience this 'bouncing' on jtl for days at a time until i have a period where it is all good and normal , the ground game always seems unaffected and fine.

friends have reported seeing me bounce around and not the npc's and i have witnessed others 'bouncing' when all has been normal for me.

does anyone actually have a definitive answer as to what causes it?

is it client side lag (i dont think so) or server side lag (hmmmm?) or a bug in the programming that deals with co-ords or data transfer

i really have no idea ,

pc spec atm is nforce2 mobo , athalon 2200 , geforce4 ti4600 , 1 gig memory

dont think its hardware prob at my end ,

any one know ???

please??

sure is annoying

It is indeed lag. I've included a link below that should help solve your problem.
