Pilot Archive
Thread: PLEASE, need help/advise, i'm getting back to flying..
You've got several options. First of all, there's plenty of new ships out. One you might want to take a look at is a Heavy TIE. It's basically a standard TIE with 90-95k mass. You can really load that baby up. However, it's easy to become too used to mass that large, so you may want to keep to your Interceptor. It'll make you a better pilot, IMO
As far as parts go, I'd get a Mark IV engine, Mark III shields, and a Heavy Blaster to start with on your Interceptor. Then build the rest around that. For an Interceptor, you're probably going to want to skimp in the area of boosters (as in, none at all), and armor (as in not much). Don't forget to use droid programs. The TIE Bomber is generally not considered to be a worthwhile ship. I used mine once before selling it.
Once you get 4433, upgrade to a TIE Advanced. On my advanced, I've got Mark IV shields and two Heavy Blasters. The Mark IV engine is really nice, though. I still keep my armor pretty minimal, but I do have boosters in the advanced. Assuming you run droid programs, the Advanced should be more than enough to get you through tier iv. In fact, you may want to consider getting the droid box rather than the equipment box first.
If you do decide to get the Heavy TIE, build it around a Mark IV setup. If you need to, skimp on the armor. And get an advanced blaster rather than a heavy blaster. This will be more than enough to finish your grind in.
Also, at 4333 you qualify for the JSF. Many consider that to be the best ship ingame. Personally, I think you'll be a better pilot if you learn to use and advanced well. And if you can get folks to help you with the mission, you can earn the Red Interceptor at your current level. Note that it is bugged right now and widely considered to be a cheater ship.
You have to run a series of missions starting at the Kasshyyyk station to get it. The final mission involves disabling and escorting a corellian Corvette. You are qualified for the RGI at 3222, but I don't know any 3222 pilot that can solo this mission.
As far as it being a cheater ship, it has a bugged hitbox. The hitbox is about 50% the size it should be, making it extremely hard to hit. Some say that the wings block the hitbox making it only possible to hit from directly in front or directly behind. That last part, however, is up for debate currently.
