I just completed my final tier 4 box as a RSF Privateer and went back to my trainer. She gave me a mission against some Black Sun in the Yavin system, and I didn't complete the mission. When I went back to get the mission again, she sent me to the Grand Admiral for the Kessel missions. What I want to know is, did I miss out on a reward for not completing the Yavin mission? And was I supposed to be able to try it again? I was able to try all of the othermissions until I succeded. If I did miss a reward, is there anything I can do about it?

Get to final battle between RSF forces and Black Suns. RSF forces spawn in a cluster but do not engage enemy when they spawn and the enemy does not engage them. This leaves me to face 2 gunboats and 8 escorts that instantly aggro me. Anyone else have this happen?

I remember this mission well, RSF was my first pilot squad

Your escort wont engage unless they are hit by the enemy.... if you fly at the black sun through your escort the shots directed at you will alsohit your escort and get them to engage with you.

Hope this helps and good luck pilot

This is a real b**** of a mission, especially solo as a 4444 in a large-footprint ship, even a Bel-22.

All things considered, you CAN skip it (by just going straight to your factional Master mission-giver), you just miss out on getting the Haor-Chall post-nerf L8, which can be a nice RE piece with a QID for armor/hp.

Death doesn't fly a JSF anymore...he flies a Gallente Thorax in EVE Online

I skipped the exit mission and got master. However!I couldn't get the tier 4 Black Sun duty missions because the NPC thought I still needed to do the exit mission and that was the only mission they would give me.

Besides the escort not helping noticably, there is another apparent bug, at the moment...

The enemy gunboats are invulnerable. Hit one with a concussion missle III, pour on fire from three level 8 guns till destroyed (me, that is), and his shield is still at 100%.

Mission is just impossible, for a solo, right now, and if the gunboats ARE invulnerable, impossible for a group too. Unless you only have to kill the fighters, and not the gunboats.

It is not impossible to do.

I soloed it once (took one hell of a beating) and did it another time with a friend. As another poster before me pointed out, it is absolutely necessary that you make sure your support craft get hit. (Which IMO is a bug that needs to be corrected ASAP) All RSF missions seem to have that particular bug though. :-(

As for the invulnerable gunships, I think I know what happened to you. The gunships in that missions seem to have some odd hitboxes. I had that happen to me as well. I broke off and attacked from another angle. That way I was able to damage the gunships.

And make sure that you have the fastest engine in your ship that you can squeeze in. That way you can make strafing runs that hopefully take you out of range before taking too many hits. (A little luck does help big time here). Take out the fighters first, the the gunboats. That way you don't have to worry about constant missile fire.

This tactic at least worked for me. Hope this helps.
