I would like to know how many of you are having problems using your mining laser on the pilot controled gun. In my case I can shoot for 10 minutes any asteroid and no chunks will break from it. But if I place the laser on the top turret it works fine.

ok there is a bug/problem/working as intended or whatever with astroids themselfs. see they only spawn 3 large chunks at any one time if you try to spawn anymore the astroid refused to spawn more untill the others have been destroyed, if they arn't destroyed and dissapere naturly they bug the astroid.
the y-8 is due for some love anyways so wait till patch 24, get yourself a 3 man crew, man the two new turrets on the front of the ship located around 30% down the ships hull.
at the moment they look like two silver plates, kinda like nippels

What kind of mining laser are you trying to use? I have used a crafted Mark III mining laser in the pilot gun slot in the Y-8 and can damage asteroids. This was solo too, I just wanted to see if it would work.
Are you running a Weapon Overload droid command? If not, try running WO3.

Had the same problem Javi and I had to play around with it. Make sure the Asteroid has some HP left so asteroids will come off. ( to those completely lost at what I am saying the less HP an asteroid has the less chunks it will spawn off) Recently I noticed a stealth fix that fixed this, but it might not have fixed everyone. Try getting a flight computer up in there and run Weapon Overload 3, ask any Imperial Ace to burn it. Run the WO3 program and try it out, the capacitator gauge should now move. If it doesn't work, I wish you the best luck,maybe try redeeding your ship.
